This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Erick Wujcik, Passed away One Year Ago Today

Just a reminder, that its been a year since we lost the architect of the Amber DRPG.

This was my blog entry last year:

Erick Wujcik, R.I.P.

It was a chill autumn night when I saw the news;
I should have known even then that he was gone.
The world already seemed paler, more a shadow, less real.

We are left now, diminished by his absence, the world a less colourful place, a little less fun.
He has gone to join the ranks of the Immortals, the last prince of Amber.

A man's immortality is gained through his works.
And in Erick's works, he helped us all to be immortals.
He was our guide in making better worlds, and filling them with people.

He was himself the traveller who led us through the shadows, past the dark green woods, and to that golden castle on a mountain.

So fare well, Erick; my friend, my teacher, the guru of my games; with whom I spent much time talking to, and always learning from.
You showed me how to make my inner worlds come alive for others.
I know you exist still in some shadows; I hope that someday I will find you there.

But first we'll meet again on a Saturday, at six o'clock.
I'll bring seven friends, and show them your world.

Croaker

Was thinking about it these days :(

I'd add that, without him, Amber 2.0 seems at best a bleak prospect, and at worst... Without his moral authority, we could end up with OGL Amber.

I think I'll play another Erick Wujcik memorial game.

It's always good to have a reason to bust out TMNT&OS again :D

Erick was both prolific and creative. Truly a loss.

I'll keep his family in my prayers.
I'm sad I never met him, gamed with him, or listened to any of his seminars on gaming. I hope still that his influence will be felt for many many many many years.
Perhaps a Chaosian House or Golden Ring realm House would be befitting IMC.

Having gamed with Erick on several occasions, I'll say that I really miss the opportunity to again experience his creative mind. I had some conversations once with him about the how and why of his ADRP system and I wish I had been taking notes. I felt like a student at the feet of the master.....
