This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Taking the PCs back to Childhood

Erick had specifically suggested in a couple of places that it was a good idea to, in flashbacks or outright play, game scenes or sessions with your Amber PCs when they were children.

Has anyone actually done this? How did it turn out?

It ain't Amber, but I suggest asking a certain GM about her Waterdeep campaign.

Yes, I'd spoken to Fer about that, she had no idea that it was suggested in Amber, too.  It seems to have worked well for her.

I ran a Christmas Special one-off in whcih I ran the heroes through a little back-story and interesting foreshadowing in a "Before they Were Famous" adventure.

It got mixed reactions, but I generally enjoyed the indulgence - hell it was Christmas!

I ramped up the NPCs to reflect the weaker PCs.

The hardest part was coming up with a reason why 6 characters who never knew each other would find themselves stranded in a pub with the rain lashing down.

The best part was introducing foreshadowing elements from the campaign with adventures to date, and with future encounters.

As a later event, one of the characters had a dream in which he revisited his past and viewed the events of the Christmas special but from a different angle. (He saw a future and younger version of himself in each encounter).

Hope that made sense...
