Hey there.  Xenon and Stormwind replied to another post of mine and suggested that I check this thread out.

I'm an Amber newb who is interested in getting into a game.  I have read the core rulebooks and the novels, but will otherwise need a lot of help.

If you are not interested in having a newb, that's fine.  Otherwise, I'll PM my rather vague notions about my character to you.

Also, I tried checking out all of your info online, but I just get 404 errors, so I'm a bit confused about how the auction, powers, and points are going to work in your system.

Eoghann.
A slim guy, about 1m80, with sharp features and shoulder-length grey-white hair. He dresses mostly in black and gold, fancies wearing a coat and, whenever possible, goes with a thin, long sword you've all seen burst into flames at the occasion.
He is often seen along with his faithfull raven, which he calls Meanas
He likes fine wine, chess games and intelligent, intellectual conversation, despising boisterous types and loud noises.

I have some ideas of what I want to make of him, but I'm not telling.

@Locathus: Regarding jibbajibba's Spoken Truths pages, they are currently undergoing renovations, so many of the pages are not available right now. Here's a basic rundown:

• Attributes
  Jibbajibba uses the four basic attributes (Psyche, Endurance, Strength & Warfare), but he also uses two additional attributes (Political influence & Birth order).
  • Political Influence
    Firstly this determines the order in which players get to chose posts in the Sanctum (see below) and such forth.
    Secondly, this is the amount of 'grease' your character has in terms of getting things done (convincing a guard to look the other way, acquiring a 'quiet place' to interrogate a prisoner, etc)
    
  • Birth Order
    This is precisely the order of precedence of Oberon's children and determines things such as who is next in line for the throne, who the Royal guard will take orders from in Oberon's absence.
    
• Auction
  The auction will run in three rounds. During the first two rounds you send your bids to jibbajibba and you will get back your current rank and the maximum points spent in each attribute that you bid on that round. During the third round you send in your bids as before, but you get nothing back.
  When you make a bid, it can be for any number of points, you do not need to exceed the top bid and can choose to bid any number of points.
  This means that at the end of the second round you will know what the top bid was in any of the attributes that you bid on that round, but since the bids in the third round are completely blind, you won't know precisely how things stand when the game begins. Jibbajibba also puts the primary NPC's into the same auction which helps confuse rankings even more
  Finally, during character creation, you are not allowed to put any additional points into attributes after the auction.
  
• Powers
  Jibbajibba uses a partial power system which allows for significant customization. He also doesn't publish the precise power trees, but instead he will send the individual trees to each player as appropriate once the player has already committed the points to that power, and then the player can choose which powers from the tree that they want. The basic power costs are about the same as those in the books (Pattern, Logrus, Shapeshifting, Trump), so if you want the full basic power package then you can expect it to cost about the same as the books. The minimum investment in a power is about 10 points and that won't get you much.
  Jibbajibba also charges an additional 10 point buy in for magic (conjuration or sorcery)
  
• Miscellaneous
  
  • You get 200 points to create a character with
  • Jibbajibba uses a skill system: 1 point = 200 skill points (10 skill points = competent, 50 skill points = genius)
    
  • item, creature & construct rules as per normal

no worries you sare more tha welcome i am swapping out old data and droppign in new stuff as well as refreshign he wiki etc so teh links will be back and new stuff will be poseted here. The base site //www.jibbajibba.com/Amber will work but jus the rules of play link and the history links can be relied on

Thanks. I just hope that I didn't forget anything vital in that synopsis

Speaking of which:

• The Sanctum
  The Sanctum is a political entity created by Oberon which basically prevents any prince (or princess) of Amber from holding too much power. The purpose of the Sanctum is to be an advisory council for Oberon, and to run things when he isn't around (which seems to happen often enough)
  The Sanctum is composed of eight Wardens and a number of underlings. (I may have some of the names incorrect, but hopefully the information below is fairly accurate):
  
  • Overwarden: The chairman of the Sanctum. Various administrative responsibilities.
  • Warden of the East: Controls the armies of Amber
  • Warden of Arden: Controls the rangers of Arden and is responsible for Arden forest, including such matters as trade routes etc
  • Warden of Storms: Controls the Amber fleet
  • Warden of Seals: Amber's spymaster. Controls the Kings messengers.
  • Warden of Remba: Responsible for Remba
  • Warden of Tir: Responsible for Tir
  • Warden of the Pattern: Responsible for the pattern in Amber. Controls the Pattern guard.

New NPCs
Lazarus, The Spartan Warrior - also known as Lararus the Silent, or in private Lararus the Sullne. A private man of few words he is a formidible Warrior and tactician though possibly lacks the charisma to be a truely great leader of men. He leads by example and is usually the first to the breach or the first to lead the counter charge. His sullen nature stems from the death of his full brother Caius at the Seige of Aniqua. It is known that he wanted to lead the sortie against the forces of Chaos but Oberon forebade it and assigned Caius insted.


The auction format
3 round blind auction. Post your bids to me as PMs here.
Attributes
Strength - covers physical strength as well as the amount of damage you can take
Warfare - covers tactics, martial prowess and leadership
Psyche - mental will and the power of the mind
Endurance - The engine that powers everything else

Political Influence - Your influence in Amber, the ability to call on assitance and garner information
Sucession - your birth order, also acts as a kind of pool of Good stuff in maber as the elder children of Amber have more respect and greater reputations

Stuff - +/- 10 maximum. Have decided that you can split this 10 between reactions and luck but still an overall total of +/- 10 points

could you please explain the splitting of stuff? that sounds like it might impact how many points we choose to spend.

also, i see the powers page still lists the magic affinity at 5?
