This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

For the Dukedom of Mirrors, can i get a background (either post here or pm me) of the most respected and skilled mage in amber? Should i just make this up or what.

Easy one. His name is Constantine ;) .

Jibba, please read the new Constantine page in the wiki. Your PM box bounced, so I left a somehow important message there. Thanks.

Can i get one who isn't already a warden. I'm not looking to pawn my wardenship off on others (or have it stolen out from under me).?

As jibbajibba posted earlier here ... the post of Duke of mirrors is currently already occupied by Molo of House Chantris.

From what I understood the posts of both the Dukes of mirrors and scrolls are already occupied (at least for now) due to plot reasons.

Logos7

Ahh, I thought molo was a beurocrat, easy job for me.

Oh well. It was worth the try :D .

Sorry been busy planning and running my daughter's fifth birthday party. Dr Who theme 16 5 year olds to entertain. Quite tiring and it turns out decorating a cake is not as easy as it looks.
Anyway .

Yes Molo is Duke of Mirrors and Caspar is Duke of Scrolls.

I will be catching up with the wiki now and will clear out same more slace from my mail box but you can email me directly

Where can I find your e-mail? Also, where can I find some background on the other candidate? Is there any? I'm not sure if we're voting blindly here just because or what.

blind? never blind. you can always ask questions, or give info.

now Lord Silas, of the House of Garridan, what house is that? its not from the website, so is it a player-made one? or a GC thing? i dont know.

Samuel is from house Feldane, which is a much more well-known house in Amber. good traditionalist, what do ya want to know?

Made up. I'd give info, but I'm waiting on jibba's ok on that, so I can't.

And GC's for Golden Circle, right?

So, where can I find the kind of info my character would have about this Samuel guy? Or do you mean I should ask in-game? I'm not sure about that, might be pretty slow.

Sorry I shoudl have explained the mechanical process better I was focusing on the in game bit.

Okay there are some Amberite Noble NPCs out there but not many they are found here (this has not yet been updated though and so may confuse the houses are correct however)  - http://www.jibbajibba.com/amber/power_is_the_key/houses/index.html

However, I have not attempted to list out the entire populace of Amber for 2 reasons.
i) I am very lazy
ii) A number of players have spent points on allies. I am happy for them to define these allies and their relationships to them.

So the players that have their own allies want to try and get them political clout via the sanctum. Making Dave of the House Pollandine into Dave, Duke of Cloisters and Admiral of the Fleet is far more useful.
Now if I defined all the NPCs then players with their own ideas would have to drop them and take mine or it would be obvious that they were allies as they weren't on my list.
Add on another layer of intrigue and a clever player will just make up a name. Jasmine of House Damsce, and throw it in there when that name means nothing at all so that when they propose Dave later no one knows what is going on. Sequence and Order Stress and Balance.

So adding all that together and the best thing I can do is step back let the Players define all candidates apart from the two I have named as in situ, Molo Duke of Mirrors and Caspar Duke of Scrolls and then fill in the details post election.

So if you want details on a candidate then ask the PC that proposed them. And if you want to put your own fellows forward then np. In all cases I am of course free to alter the details post event to fit them in but unless you proposed The Demon Nurgal for a position as Duke of Staves and claimed he lived in a town house near the port we should have no issues (actualy I wonder if a chaos lord in demon form could live in amber .... hmm... can't see why not )

asking in-game can get the best results. im a little surprised at the push-ahead-quickly speed we have going in the meeting at the moment, i was expecting more debate before a debate.

Samuel is not fully defined yet, he is one of the younger sons of the very old house Feldane. traditionalist, religious, ect. though i may throw together a page on the wiki for him later on when i get round to it.

If your making new houses up, you may want to put a wiki page up on the topic so we can all see what we would know about it.

at this point, we are just bullshitting politics like Caleb implied. petty infighting over a couple positions to put NPCs in. 7 of the 8 wardens have made posts so far though, i guess some people are just quiet. of course, anyone we nominate will naturally have all the ability needed for the position, all that is ever in question is their loyalty politically. which means the votes are more popularity contests for those who try to put candidates forward. The only problem with this as far as i can tell, is that we have had so very little interaction between our characters so far, that we don't know which way people will jump or how to react to them.

but lets face it- done realistically, most politics resemble a forum flamewar between trolls, with duels and wars replacing moderators.

Yeah one of my drivers here was to get the PCs interacting so when I kick of the Royal Ball scene people have got some sense of who the others are.
Oh one other thing I was thinking about opening the Sanctum meeting to all read. This isn't entirely accurate but it means the other PCs can take a look at what is going on and get a feel for other personalities. I will decide based on opinion here.

all-read after the fact, anything before that and you could get a weird political impact from non-wardens. once the meeting ends, if there were any servants around then they would naturally talk about it.
