This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: CrimsonSuhuy = Suh-hooey in my vocab.
Ditto.

I've got no idea whether that's correct, though.

I can imagine the scene, all of us gamers (as elders) trying to git his name right, sounding like a pig calling contest, and what do you think his (Suhuy's) reaction might be?  LOL!!

sounds like a skit in Dragon Magazine!

as i recall, there are audiobooks of the amber chronicles which were read by zelazny himself.  a few weren't, but enough were that we can probably get msot of them right if any one really cares enough and can find copies :P

I have a few of them. I found Zelazny's pronunciation surprising on a number of mundane items. But I do not have the second series, where many of the stranger names/places/objects that you list above are found.

And Zelazny doesn't complete the series. They had a professional reader towards the end of the second five set.

I vote for Soo-hooey too. For whatever's worth.

I recently got access to the Blood of Amber audiobook. Pronunciations that caught me off guard:

Frakir: fray-kir (kir rhymes with "near"), emphasis on first syllable.
Suhuy: suh-hooey, emphasis on second syllable.
Fiona: Fi-ona (Fi rhymes with "eye) emphasis on second syllable.

Also I heard the NPiA audiobook about ten years ago. If memory serves, Moire was read "mar."

That one was Zelazny himself.
