Is there much to say about the big guy? He's the one really totally nice guy who I think would almost always turn out to be the loving parent, like from some old 70s historical drama like the dad from Little House on the Prairie or The Waltons, always ready with advice, always strong and doing the right thing, and always ready to forgive.
Of course, the one thing about Gerard is that he expects his kids to do right too, and if they turn out to be bastards like the rest of his family, he will be deeply disappointed. He'll guilt the fuck out of you.
I don't see him doing much more than that, except maybe in one circumstance: if you, his kid, manipulate him. I think that might be the one thing that could get him mad enough to decide that you need some "sterner" punishment.
