One Year Ago Today

Its been one year now that I started my Amber campaign.  Tonight's session was awesome.

Well, I have at least 4 people on here who have been players, and one more who's a lurker here (or may have registered, I don't know). I'd rather they speak of its awesomeness. In part not to toot my own horn any further, but really because I just don't have time to write a long report about it (like right now, I should already be out the door and heading to the lodge).

As for the campaign itself, you may want to read this. I stopped doing it because having to sucked, but you might get a good enough idea.

Just so you know, since last update Cyric is dead, Starton, Loreley and Diana have left the game, and we've got two new characters, Ewan, son of Eric, and Karel, son of Flora. Ewan and Máximo are banished from Amber, Dworkin is loose, and Dietmar has managed to become a Chaos Lord, Logrus-wielding and stuff (he was a shapeshifter since chargen). He still hasn't got Pattern.

How much of an issue was it to deal with three PC departures ?

As far as plot goes, I'll let the GM explain, should he want to. As for mechanics, the whole party discussed whether or not the ex-PCs should still be a part of the attribute ladder, and whether or not they should keep on spending points and learning new stuff. We (the players) know for sure that Lorelai is still on the race, because her stuff diminished drastically, and while she and Diana are away from the focus, prisoners to Fiona AFAWK, Starton is back in Amber and still casually toying with the laws of nature.

And what about the new PCs ? How do they integrate the ladder ?

I'm not really sure how it was managed, since chargen is private, but an interesting point is, two of the gone characters were 1st-placers (Diana in psyche and Starton in endurance). I wonder if whoever happened to be second at that moment just kept the first place and is now top dog, or it just means you cannot beat the NPCs at that particular contest? I know how I would handle it, but I'm not really sure how it's being done in this particular case.

Any thoughts, Pundit?

the GM I'm sure knows if the NPC is still active, then to me it would be a plot to get the 2nd place to overcome in storyline and become the new 1st, not as some free forfeit, but by action.

How much of an issue was it to deal with three PC departures ?

Systemwise, I'd managed this sort of thing before, so, not much of an issue. They became, essentially, "GM PCs".

Plot-wise, I did the same thing in each case, essentially taking them out of picture for quite a long time, and then eventually re-introducing them, so that there wouldn't be too much of a jarring sense of wrongness about the sudden "change of actor", between how the PC was interpreted by their original player and how I will interpret them.

As standard in the book for introducing a player after the auction. They just can't have a 1st rank in anything, and buy "x.5 ranks".
