This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Nobilis 3E

While I've never actually played Nobilis, I know that a few posters here like to graft the Nobilis rules onto the Amber setting so hopefully it's okay to post this here. I saw in the newest DriveThruRPG newsletter that someone has released Nobilis 3E.

I used to own Nobilis 2E (the big, pretty white book) and still own a copy of Nobilis 1E. I have to admit that I still don't quite "get" the game, but I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has 3E ... how does it compare to earlier editions? Anyone able to give a review of this?

What they say is this:
QuoteThere is a hidden world of spirit that surrounds us.

Within that world dwell the Nobilis.

They are creatures half-human and half-god. Each holds dominion over a
single concept in the world.

You have heard the stories and rumors of the Nobilis.

You have heard of the fates of those who encounter them.

Herein you will find a guide to dealing with these Powers and their
attendant spirits.

Herein you will find the third edition of the Nobilis RPG---a diceless
roleplaying game, completely updated and rewritten for modern
sensibilities, that you may use to tell new stories of the Nobilis'
lives.

Someone also recently brought back an older thread on the topic over at the general RPG subforum, here. Personally, I can't comment on the changes yet beyond what I've learned from discussions elsewhere, on account of waiting for the local store to get the actual physical book (which their site tentatively lists as a May release).
Previously known by the name of "GrimGent".

Sorry. Didn't see the other thread until after I'd posted here. :o

Thanks for the news, I'll go see that thread :)

Too bad that, whatever the game, I won't be able to play it :(

I'm not going to close this thread or anything, but I think the place on theRPGsite to discuss Nobilis is over on the main forum.  It isn't Amber or an Amber-inspired game (at least, not in the sense that the author gives any special weight to being inspired by it), nor was it written or inspired by Erick Wujcik.

The only ways it really relates to Amber are that its diceless (but this isn't a forum for discussing just any diceless game), that one could argue it tried in some half-assed way to rip off some of Amber's style, and that its proponents have frequently harped on about its superiority to Amber (going so far as to have tried to hijack the aborted "Amber 2e" project of Guardians of Order to try to push for them to redo the entire game with Nobilis' rather mediocre game system).

Feel free to lock the thread.

1) I hadn't seen the other thread when I started this one.

2) My goal was to alert the couple of folks who like both Amber and Nobilis, and a locked thread still accomplishes that goal.

It was never my plan to fill up a bunch of space in the ADRP board with Nobilis stuff. Just this one thread.
