This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[LoO] How would you run the first adventure?

If you were going to run (or have run) Lords of Olympus, how would you set up the first adventure? Would you want to start everyone on the same world; or everyone all over the place? Would you start with some kind of a plot hook, or just another day in the multiverse?

I think I want to keep things fairly concentrated for the first game. That way I can better control the introduction of NPCs and in-universe concepts. I'm leaning more and more toward a "Percy Jackson" type game where everyone starts out relatively low powered and limited to a single realm. Every session I'll introduce a few new concepts. It will be like they're learning about the universe with their characters (that's likely what will be happening anyways.)

I plan on having one character get into a jam.  He will then go to the other characters to try and get help.  The other characters will start out by themselves or in pairs.

Unfortunately the screen on my tablet cracked :banghead: so I have to wait to read the rules till it gets repaired (I never seem able to read much on the PC at home)  I am hoping to start a campaign when my buddy is visiting me and let him play the character in the jam.

So are you planning to start out with the PCs knowing their divine heritage, or being initially unaware that they are the children of gods?

I went back and forth on it for a while, but I decided to start off with the players already knowing about their half-god natures. Anymore, the scenes where the characters discover they're special and how they react to it feels like watching a movie for the hundredth time. It's been done in so many games that it feels like we can cut it out and jump straight into the current drama without losing anything.

That's a good point. Though I think that there is still some ground to mine there; a son of the gods would have always known he was special; he'd be vastly better at all kinds of things than all the other kids around him.   The big moment of realization would actually be when they found out that they were the child of a Greek God... and of course, that reveal would go very differently if it was a character on Classical Earth, versus if you were talking about a character on our Modern Earth, who until then thought that greek pantheon were nothing but a fairy tale.
