This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Knock, knock! Who's there?

In my current Amber game the PCs have an issue with shapeshifters a result of this is they are trying to get to a definitive  method of identifying imposters. It appears they have selectect Trump for this purpose.

The rule is when you trump someone you get the real person. Now they may be blocking but if they agree to take the contact then you are certain that the person you are speaking to is 'real'.

Now this got me thinking about a few trump questions

i) When you make a trump call is your real identity revealled? The trump trick that lets you know who is callign you before you answer seems to say yes.
ii) If you trump call a shapeshifter what do you see through the trump (my call would be their current form)?
iii) What appears on a chaos trump deck? The human form? Demon Form? a mix (I have asked this one before)

On a similar track. If you use psyche to identify others can you work out who they are or just get a feel for the strength of their psyche? A direct mind to mind link will be pretty much 100% but can a more subtle , less noticeable background scan give you enough inforamtion (my take is you just get a sense of the strength).
Also how much greater does your psyche need to be to create a false psychic reading? Could a much higher Psyche create a faux personality with an apparently lower psyche thus hiding their real strength?

i) Oberon, in disguise of Ganelon, used trump card and Corwin couldn't understand his real identity. Maybe Fiona could, I'm not sure. Characters see normally (i mean like i'm lookin to my computer right now) through card but there is a psychic contact too.

ii) At the end of the fourth book, after Tir Na Nog'th, Corwin and Benedict tried to talk to their father via his trump card. They saw Ganelon.

iii) I think its up to the artist. Oberon is a shapeshifter but he looks human on his card.

P.S. Maybe, just maybe, players with VERY strong psyche could show any image they imagine through trump card.
