Okay I have 2 daft pet theories about the amberverse. I have espoused them here previously but thought I would post them in their full glory and allow others to post their own daft ideas, and of course rip mine to shreads.

Everything is shadow
Okay everything right back to the primal pattern and the Logrus is just shadow stuff. This includes the Amberites. This is why they can shapeshift, heal wounds  etc. The whole shapeshift schtick is innate but the Amberites being separated from Chaos for so long just don't know how it works. The only hold over from this power is their ability to heal which is simply innate shapesift, restoring lost body parts etc. When a shapeshift wants to add volume they can just absorb shadow stuff so substance and shadow stuff are equivalent.
Moving through shadows is just the external manipulation of this stuff. As you get close to the pattern the stuff gets harder to manipulate although this is largely psycho-sematic.

Trump Conquers All
Trump is the only real power.
The Logrus and the Pattern are just abstract trumps of the universe drawn in competing styles. The Logrus and Pattern masters are just low level Trump initiates. They are redrawing the world in their heads as they travel but can only do this one element at a time. This explains why Brand reaches the ultimate power when he becomes a living trump.

Possibly mutually exclusive but it might be that the Amberites only exist as forces of will because they have been drawn by Dworkin as trumps who then gather shadow stuff about them in the form he has defined.

That's brilliant. After all, we all know the game needs pawns. Dworkin and Suhuy could be the original 'trumps', as drawn/created by the Unicorn and Serpent. They each have their own powered trump in the Pattern and the Logrus. This is pretty coherent with the Amberverse if one wishes to argue it that way.

I like, agree with, and have in the past based alot of my campaign on the Trump theory you put forth Jibbajibba.
Trump I feel pre-dates Logrus and is originally an Abyss Ability, (Look into the 3rd Book of the Weis/Hickman Dragonlance saga with the Time-traveling twins & Kender. I use the Abyss in it is a good description mixed w/ RZ's info on his version of it.)

I'd love for us to game sometime, as stated before.

I'll comment on the shadow one later, need to gather my thoughts on that.

Pattern and Trump are the same power.  Each is an expression of the other.
