This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Holy shit.

And they show an amount of ignorance about Amber Diceless, and diceless gaming in general, that is PAINFUL.

Heh, yeah, you do need a certain mind set for the game since it can be very confrontational/adversarial.  Just for giggles, I bothered to mention Four Houses in Amber to see what kind of noise that generates.

Personally i dislike Fate as a system, reading this and finding Amber Accelerated was suprising to me. I get how this might seem to work for some players.

Also yeah, many people in that thread do see like they are new to Amber Diceless. The more we can get interested the merrier i say:)

You can think of FAE as like training wheels for Amber Diceless.  You can create obstacles, set up advantages, leverage an enemy's weakness, and use 'good stuff' with the associated mechanics in FAE.  After a while, you can say, "Where we're going, you won't need dice."  :-D

Amber(10!) spawned Fudge(7...), which spawned Spirit of the Century(6.9-ish), which birthed FATE(meh), which spewed out FAE(🤮).

It might not be your cup of vomit, but FAE is a handy toolkit for making quick hacks and one shots.  So, it has its place in my library.  Not a fan of the company, but I played the hell out of Spirit of the Century back in the day.

Wrath of God

Fate seems maybe bit abstract, but since I love Amber setting, while vehemently hating Amber Diceless ten times as much after actual campaign, I think I'll give it a shot.

Well this thread popping up again made me go and pull up and re-read bits of Shadowknight.

I've been thinking about Amber a fair bit in relation to a couple things:

• I've ran/played a couple diceless games with some Amber influence over the holidays — James Kerr's Bettin' Bullets and Solo Martial Blues.

• Amber is perhaps the best example of "immersion" that I have run/played. This has come up a couple times because I am playtesting Fabrication: A Game that Makes Games and one of the a priori assumptions you can pick is "immersion trumps all"

I then went down a bit of a rabbit hole and dug up the https://adrp.proboards.com/ forum and replied to a few old threads there, including finally sharing more of an Amber game I ran in September 2021.
