This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Selling Points for My Amber Game

Ok, I have decided that the following statements are going to be both the way I will explain some basic Amber concepts to those players of mine who are unfamiliar with the setting, and they will be a major thematic of the new campaign:

1. The Amberites are like a cross between the Greco-Roman Pantheon, and the Kennedies.

2. The Courts of Chaos are like a cross between Cthulhoid Nightmare Creatures, and the French.

I'm almost afraid to ask. What alleged traits of the French are supposed to apply to the Courts ?

Aaah! Could this be what Schattensturm was refering to, but answered in the wrong topic?
But yeah, I'm curious, too :))

Think the court at Versailles. Lots of pomp and circumstance, lots of impressive splendour, lots of people worried about appearances. Only its also after losing a major war and everything has really gone to shit, so a lot of it is keeping up appearances. Words like "Honour" and "Tradition" get thrown around a great deal, because its all they really have anymore to hold onto.

That and, of course, the arrogance in thinking that their culture is the Greatest Thing Ever, and looking at everything else (especially the Amberites) as "barbarie", while secretly envying their power and success.

That arrogance is/was shared by the British, the Germans, the Austrians, the Italian, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Americans...

Well, the ones that didn't were mostly conquered or killed by the ones who did and were convinced that they were right.

Actually, the comparison with Versailles works for me. Especially after the Brits kicked the French out of Quebec and the glorious time of Louis the XIVth was not to happen again until the regime changed. I could picture that. Now I'm trying to figure who's going to be Lafayette, which shadow is going to rebel against Amber and what will the revolution look like.

gabriel_ss4u

Most likely some Golden Realm shadow backed by Osric or Finndo... I'm sure everyone has used that in the past in one form or another.

I'm a fan of Cognac thou. And I often visualize the Musketeer's style and innuendo/postulations when I play some Amberites.

Osric or Finndo? What about Dalt and Luke over in Kashfa/Eregnor?? Why jump in with peripheral characters when two characters central to the setting are pretty clearly planning just that, to make the GC a major power independent of Amber?

No reason imparticular, just saying either of those 2 might get it done!
Not taking away from that next gen. but I'd bet on old money.

IMC Luke, Merlin, Martin, Coral, and a few choice NPCs are a separate faction know as the Topaz Society. Information brokers of Shadow.
They have more interest in keeping all sides active IMC.

But I know ya like the 'rouge' idea, and Dalt fits that.
