This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Promoting Lords of Olympus

Anyone want to share their ideas for how to bring more people's attention to this game, and increase the participants here?

For one thing, I'd recommend anyone who's interested in this game to try running sessions of it, of course. And besides that, if you know people or groups where you think the existence of this forum might be of interest to them, please let them know!

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;589793Running demos at local game stores could be helpful.

That could be; of course I suffer in my own case from a distinct lack of local gaming stores around me.

Anyone else interested in doing this kind of thing with their local gaming store?

Part of the problem may be that the general "diceless" thing doesn't seem to appeal much to mainstream gamers any more.

I ran some ADRP sessions for some newbies a few years ago and they seemed to really enjoy it, but soon they wanted to go back to their dice. Killing stuff with dice was easier for them to play than acting things out without dice, and certainly diced games are easier for me to run because I don't need as much plotline when there are dice to be rolled.

Also, the few boards out there for ADRP don't seem to generate much chatter on a regular basis. When they do, half of the participants want to change the system instead of discuss it.

I wish I had a good answer. It's not just a LoO problem, but an ADRP problem as well (and soon to be a LoGaS problem as well).

have you already distributed review copies?

I would find the most active Amber GMs at several major cons. Get them a copy of LoO in exchange for them running a demo session or two.

Your first target needs to be current diceless players.

Also, don't you travel home to Canada each year? If so, try to coordinate your travel with a major Canadian convention and run a bunch of demos with prizes for the players.

You may consider doing a YouTube demo of a LoO game. I would suggest costumes and some great RPGers. Make it 3-5 minutes long and let us see what exactly happens in a diceless RPG.

Also, you should contact Olivier Legrand and see if he'd be cool with you pimping LoO on the Mazes & Minotaurs yahoo group.

Other marketing ideas would be buying ads on any site devoted to faux Greek fanfic - aka Percy Jackson, 300, Clash of the Titans, etc. I am sure they exist somewhere on the web.

I believe so, but don't quote me on that.  Its Brett's area.

We are trying to do that, yeah.

I agree that this is by far the "softest" target, but I don't think it needs to be the only one: yes, existing fans of games like Amber (and to a lesser extent stuff like everway, or even nobilis) are obviously going to be more likely to enjoy the system.  But I think the setting can also have a big appeal, and its another area to target (to people who want epic high-powered play, who are into greek mythology, who like modern fantasy stuff like american gods, Scion or even Exalted fans or people who like the ideas of those games but don't like the execution, and fans of Percy Jackson for that matter).

I go about every 18 months, though now its been over 2 years since my last trip.  Usually though, when I go I'm just way too busy to be able to do something like what you describe.

That's an  interesting idea. Does he post here? Anyone remember?

Another good idea, thanks!
