Or vice versa.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth) was written by a guy who loved Amber but couldn't get the rights to it. Same for FATE, which was based off of an Amber-FUDGE campaign that evolved into its own game system.
Just curious if anyone has converted ADRP characters into other game systems or other RPG characters into ADRP. If so, how did it work and how did you do it?
Seems like if one really wanted to do something Amber-like, the best non-ADRP rules systems would be those designed to handle superhero play. I think I've heard of d20 Mutants & Masterminds being used for Amber. I'm not sure how well it would work, but I've heard of it being done.
On the other hand, high level characters in other games could be quite Amber-like. For example, in MERP the stats for First Age characters are vastly different from those in the Third Age.
Its a good question, and yes, I think that with other games you'd want stuff that approaches super-heroic levels of play at least.
And games with a lot of fiddly mechanics would not, to me, be likely to effectively imitate Amber characters. You could try to pass a 20th level D&D character for an Amberite, but it would ultimately not fit right.

I used the Amber Diceless system for a golden-age space-pulp adventure, because I thought it was probably the closest in attitude to Zelazny - almost Lord of Light. It was very successful. I've also heard of people using it for Wuxia-themed martial arts adventures - along those lines I'm developing something of a hack to see if I can use it for Street Fighter.
I'm not sure why you would want to play Amber in another system, although I have heard of lots of people doing it, because half of the appeal for me is the system as well as the setting.

Oh, I agree that most of the fun is the actual ADRP rules system.
What happened is that I was watching the THOR movie, which got me thinking about gods battling one another in a campaign, which got me thinking about ADRP.
So this is sort of where the Superhero-Amber connection got made.
