This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Me three.

Is it to late for me to join, it would be my first pbp, but I am very familiar with Amber.  Haven't played in years though.  I am in MST, and can easily post during the day at work.
There are two dates on your gravestone and everyone knows what they mean. On mine I want people to know what the dash in the middle means.

Me four!

Okay, so that's Shiloh, Kore, Kierenne, Eidlos and me (Sand).  I think Roxanne aplied a while back (something with flowers in the username?  Too lazy to look it up), and someone is Martin, right?  That's a whole bunch over from BD :).  Am I missing someone?  Not that I'm curious or anything, I just like to know everything.

(Hi Drokare, I'm not ignoring you, but your question is obviously for Amber Artifacts, so yeah...)

Oh, I see Roxanne's player is on Obsidian Portal as well :)

For people coming in recently, in my experience a few people drop out in the first month of pretty much any PbP game so maybe the GM will allow you to sign on as alternates to fill any gaps in the roster.

Having alternates was ENORMOUSLY helpful when I ran games like Diplomacy that have some things in common with Amber.

edster

Martin is Stephanos.

AoA I like your idea for the auction; it looks as if it is a good middle ground between is standard game auction which I have found doesn't work very well in the pbp format, and just picking the stats blindly.

As posted above I will keep you in mind as an alternate. Always seems someone has to drop out early on or that I don't want to be overwhelmed getting everyone started so I can add someone later with less effort/confusion. I'll keep ya in mind.

Edster - I think it actually did work well. I'll have to consider that a default way of doing an auction. To be honest was only way I could think to put it out there.  Somehow in a standard game doing the whole "everything is a secret" yet people knew everyone's stats always seemed odd to me.  I never ran an auction like in the books in any case.

Edster: aha :)

Ninon has spend most of her time in Amber, so it would stand to reason she'd know anyone who spend any amount of time there.  Since we're starting Monday, there is little time for backstories, but if anyone would like to figure out how our characters relate, I'd be very happy to do so (with the caveat that I'll be AFK most of this Sunday).

Artifacts - I think its working out quite well, my only criticism is that it probably should have waited until you had bids from all players. I have just to write spell descriptions now, which I will try and do over the weekend. Have you discussed the use of EI with Goatkiller yet?

Ikay - Gwydion will have been regularly in and out of Amber over the past years and has been in Amber for a while now for about a month so I guess we should discuss this. I will have patchy contact with the internet over the weekend but I'm sure we could get some time to discuss.

Happy to discuss similar with anyone else who has been in Amber for a time.

Okay :)

Ninon has taken the odd tour in Shadow, and visits Rebma from time to time, but she is mostly in Amber.  She lives in the castle, but she likes to take long walks, for which sh usually takes a sketch pad.  Mostly, you can find her in her studio, or in the castle library.  She would have painted your Trump if you allowed/wished it (this goes for everybody).

She is attent and alert, and detached at the same time.  She obviously pays attention to who you are and what you do, and she'll always enquire how your recent trip was/how that research/duel/whatever went.  Very polite :)  It's just that she forgets to tell about herself unless you ask, and seems to be comfortable being quiet and just doing her own thing.

Can you tell me something about Gwydion ?  And how would he react to Ninon?

Gwydion is very focused on learning about the powers. He is extremely inquisitive and would have (in the absence of Elders) asked Ninon about Trump and how it works. He is very interested in what powers Trump and what can be done with it. Taken the discussion to PM.

Ikay and others :)

Angelique likes to host the occasional party. She lives in the palace but has a house in the country outside the city too, just an hours ride out. She is friendly, sociable and artistic and likes to design gardens, interiors, and sets trends in fashion wearing and design. She does all this for fun and will have designed any of these things or made some clothes for any of you or designed uniforms for guards. She regularly attends social events and is an excellent dancer and singer too. If Amber has anything like a cultural ambassador, Angelique is it. She has been in the city for a couple of decades now though she often wanders away to seek new art and inspiration.

You all know she is Brand's daughter, as she turned up in Amber with a signed birth certificate which was co - signed by the queen of some shadow you haven't heard of called Occitane and a dagger with his seal on it that some of the elders recognised. She doesn't know anything about her father as he left when she was a baby, but she was happy to track down where he came from though not so happy to discover his reputation (assuming he has the same rep here as in the books).

Angelique will likely know anyone who has wanted to be met in the last 20 years or so. She is very approachable and doesn't seem to look down on commoners or shadow people.
And I shall not be Dark but Beautiful and Terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea and the Sun and the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm and the Lightning! Stronger than the Foundations of the Earth. All shall Love me and Despair!

Daztur

OK, for the auction, now that I've seen the totals that everyone has bid I can adjust my bids? Right? That's delightfully nerve-wracking.

Gavken

I suspect Flora would want to be seen as the cultural Ambassador to Amber. However as Flora's son, Gwydion would have been taken along to all parties when he was in Amber. He is a good dancer and can be extremely sociable also doing card tricks to amuse. At times like these he seems to be a golden boy wrapped in a cloak of wonder.

He is vain and not a little self absorbed. He would certainly have made use of Angelique's skills in the tailoring department (see PM). He would have asked her questions about her father and what became of his research notes.

Gwydion is often away on research trips and has in the past come back in a black mood when things hadn't gone the way he wanted.

Artifacts of Amber

Yes Daztur you can adjust some if you created a character and had points spent previous to the posted totals.

I'm pretty flexible on that. I want everyone to be happy with their character.

Mechanics and rules are to help play not hinder it in my mind.
