Considering running a Play by Post

I am seriously considering running a Play by Post in Amber DRP and wanted to gauge participation or Interest.  It will be a minimum of daily posting. I have time mon-fri for multiple daily post and at least one post on sat and sun.

It will basically be 30-40 years post the first series, with Random as King. the events of the first series are somewhat common knowledge not that everyone believes Corwin's view points but everything with witnesses is more or less corroborated.

So post if you have an interest.

If you are looking for a place with some good forum boards, and in game wiki and potentially some more players then the site where my current game is running can definitely help (though I notice you have your own site). I know the site admin and he is looking for more games for the site.

Have never played Amber but am interested. I think Amber is one of the games that is well-suited to PBP since it's easy to have private conversations.

My only reservation is that a lot of the PBP I've played in before have become novelist hour with players posting multiple narrative paragraphs for their every action. I love involved RP, but I'd rather just post the sort of things I'd say if it were a face to face game, with perhaps a bit more detail, as I like playing RPGs far more than I like writing novels.

Daztur - I agree. I like pose once in a while but long dissertation on a characters feelings is usually of interest only to the player. I like short and sweet as well. Most important thing is keep it moving a Pbp dies when the momentum is lost.

Well Daztur and Gavken seems interest is less than I hoped but I am more than willing to run . Amber is nice in that 2 people can play easily enough.

Please take a look at the website and start sending me character concepts, as that will effect what NPC, youngers I will have in the mix.

Getting ready for work now but I see the stats have been changed up a bit. Basic concept is someone from the Golden Circle who grew up there as something of a spoiled golden boy who is a bit smarter than he looks.

Sounds good Daztur. I will have to big out my golden circle info then. I usually don't throw everything up on the site at once. Seems imposing to me. I like to add as we go and need.

I've only read the first five Amber books but I've read them twice so I know the basics. I don't know much about the Golden Circle except that's it's a closely-linked dependency of Amber.

What I'm going for is instead of being all confused about why he's different from everyone else (as a kid born in the shadows) or a mouse running around dodging elephants (as a kind born in Amber with Amberites all about) this guy knows exactly who is he as a scion of Amber and has been enjoying himself as a big fish in a small pond.

Except now he's about to get thrown in the ocean. And the sharks are circling.

Will probably have a small dollop of good stuff (was planning on having a big chunk but if it's not going to affect luck...) to represent him being the favorite son of one bit of the Golden Circle (probably a child of local royalty/nobility/important person and an Amberite).

Daztur - to be honest most golden circle info comes from the second series so I build off that. Knowledge of the first series is about all you need.

I'll get up Golden circle stuff soon. I think I have it on file at home and can throw it up on the website.

Sounds like a good concept for a younger. Its a hard balance of shadow versus younger vs elder.

My elders are more like real people and therefore more like real parents. The Godlike part plays out in shadow more so than Amber. Amber is real!  No one is throwing around powers in a manner that makes them Godlike, and since all of them are (more or less) equals they don't throw their weight around so to speak in Amber.

Good stuff is useful. I don't always spend it right off I might save it for the right moment to spend. Same as bad stuff

In this game you may choose your parent or let that remain unknown.

You are only recognized as an Amberite if you have Pattern and/or are recognized.

I plan to start with everyone being somewhat familiar with Amber having spent some time there or at least being somewhat educated. Sometimes it is fun to play the newborn in Amber but I think in a PbP it would just bog down a little.

You can play some one naive or new to Amber just not helpless or uneducated about it. Perhaps more book learning than experience. I just don't want to rehash things players should know about the world as is.

Also you will already know whatever powers you buy since you paid for them and do not have to learn in game. Since this is true you don't have to spend all your points if you want some of that process to occur in game (At an accelerated rate compared to experience granted)

If you have any questions let me know. We will start blind bids in the next few days. Shooting for Thursday if everyone is on board by then. We can do that via PM's. I will need a thumb nail sketch of who you want to play, as well as what powers and stats you might shoot for.


once the game gets going the focus on stats and stuff will fade but since it is a primary means of identifying character focus I tend to dwell a lil on it at start.
