I must say I didn't know this word before I read this thread. Google redirected me to The Shroudlings and the Guisel. I didn't realize there is quite a few of those Amber stories I haven't read.

I like the idea of the Shroudlings. The Mirrorworld and the ability to travel it are really good ammo for my bag of surprise. I'm not sure what demeanor or ambition I would assign to them though. I have to think about it. My immediate interrogation is about the nature of Mirrorworld : is it as old as Chaos ? Or did it appear as the Pattern was created ? It seems removed from both Logrus and Pattern influence since it manifests on both ends of the spectrum. I can't help but feel the urge to tie it to the Hall of Mirrors of Amber. The difficult part I think is to come up with a credible explanation to why Shroudlings with their awesome power aren't a bigger part of the political landscape. I'm curious to read what others have pondered.

Thought about it, too. Maybe their land exists in intershadow too.
And now that we talk about it... What about rebma's mirrors?

As to why they aren't a bigger part of the policical landscape, maybe they are. Spies and assassins to a select few, hidden masters of the game... Or maybe the pattern/logrus energies are dangerous to them, at least in the medium/long run, and force them to stay mostly in their own realm? Maybe they try to convert them to the Amber reality?

I sort of got the impression that they're in hiding because their numbers have dropped so dramatically... supposedly they did not enter the mirrorlands until after they had been so reduced. It's hard to be a big part of anything if all you want is for people not to know you're there.

My position is that the Shroudlings and the place that they come to are the last remnant of a prior creation, before everything that is now; they exist in the great darkness "beyond the abyss". They are like the Kabbalistic Qlippoth.

I could say more, but not without spoilering my own campaign, so I'll shut up now.

IMC death (undead) is a real part of Abyssal powers.
Necromancy, Half-life Brand, Fistandantilus, (or he who shall not be named)
whom ever ya like, or make-up your own, along with zombie, dracolitch, etc.

IMC the mirror realm has a tie to the Hall of Mirrors and Rebma's mirrors, as well as the dream realm of Sand & Delwin with their spikards.

See, to me, the undead are drawn from the energies of the Abyss directly; whereas wherever the Shroudlings come from is something "further out" than the Abyss.

Kinda like 'Under-shadow'
except more like 'Between-shadow' with the shroudlings, I see what ya mean, definitely somewhere else... what I tend to call "the Beyond".
