Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Trump Theory

well, the pattern is a trump of the eye of the serpent drawn in shapeshifters blood, so it shapeshifts those who walk it into creatures of power based on the eye. We can assume that Oberon (who has some shapeshifting himself) walked the pattern before he had kids- ergo all the princes of Amber are descended of one who was 'modified' by the pattern before their conception.

also- Amber is the center of which all else is reflection, so whatever they look like is the definition of beauty. they are the reality upon which shadow is based.

this makes me wonder, what Oberon may have looked like before his pattern walk. we know Dworkin is a hunchbacked dwarf, what we consider malformed, but perhaps he too was changed by the drawing of the pattern, and this was as close to 'human' as the changes could bring him.

Yes, I am a big supporter of your theory on this jibba, we park our cars in the same garage here. I believe I was the 1st to agree with you on it too as it has echoed my theory on it.

Xenon, the hunchback thing... Dworkin IMO is an advanced if not exalted shapeshifter. The hunched-back may be there for a reason, but I don't buy that reason Xenon. Not a bad postulation though.

Ya know... some hunchbacks derived their deformity from 'hangin' gone wrong'... I wonder if there was some similar punishment Dworkin had undergone that has made him so.

Do we know if Dworkin was a hunchback in Chaos before Amber?

I like that for a lot of reasons. Ties in to Ygg and the tarot (the hanged man).

an idea has occurred to me. If a trump artist draws a trump of Tir Na Nog, and then waits until the new moon has set, will the trump work? if it does, what would happen to the one who used the card?

to enter the realm in such a way would have dangers (what if the moon rises, and a cloud passes over you?), but also advantages if it works. time enough perhaps to cross the sky-reflection of Arden into strange shadows.

the easy way out, of course, is simply to not allow the trump to reach when the moon is not upon the place drawn. or to simply have them step out into the right place in the sky.

Croaker

IMO, It would work, just like a normal trump. When it's here, Tir is as real as its Pattern.
Love your idea of a sky-reflection of arden, although I'm not sure it is ever mentionned.

But then, here's a question: What if a cloud passes over Tir while you're crossing its Pattern?

weilide

Well, at some point Merlin makes the point that one cannot make a trump for places that are constantly changing. I guess the question is whether the place is more or less the same every full moon or whether it shifts enough each time that is not capturable.

gabriel_ss4u

good point weilide, I'd say it is not possible as it is always changing.
Now perhaps with a combination of Dream power or something...
