This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hey there.  The title pretty much says it all.  I am a longtime RPG player, but I have never played the Amber DRPG, and I am interested.  My usual RPG group is not interested, so I'm looking for other options.  If you have a spot for a newb in your group, let me know - just be prepared to explain a lot.  :)

I do have a copy of the two sourcebooks, and I have read all of the books.

welcome. We have a new PBEM game starting soon, go look in the 'spoken truths' thread on this forum and talk to jibbajibba. there may be room left i dont know.

i have the same problem with my friends not wanting to play amber. some of them hate diceless, and they dont know the setting at all.

The thread for the PbEM game mentioned above can be found here.

The game hasn't started yet, although we are planning to have the auction this coming week, thus assuming jibbajibba is happy for you to join, then you would need to come up with a fleshed out character concept fairly quickly.
If you need help with planning out a character in the Amber DRPG system, then I'm sure we can provide any help you might need :D

Cool - thanks for the info - I'll check that one out right away!

Welcome Locathus, I thought I'd address you on your thread as it may be a great place for getting to know the new player in a game and a 1st time Amber experience.
If you have any questions I'm sure you'll find those who like to share, or trade, information.
I'd like to ask a question I know may be on more than one mind, have you read the Amber series, or any part of it, besides the synopsis in the back of the 2nd book? I only ask as this is my Pbwiki/Pbem 1st ever really though I've played F2F Amber since it came out. This is a discussion that may be of help to you in blending with the group of 'Amber players'.

I think Weilide said it best here to a 1st time player's questions on playing the game;
Quote from: weilide;311409Oh, and you should at least read Nine Princess in Amber. Either it will be a chore and you can abandon the series with a clear conscience or it will be fun and you won't need any more persuading to read the rest. In any case, it's important to get at least a glimpse of Zelazny as a stylist, which doesn't really come through in plot summaries.

Though my thoughts replied and our new GM follows after.

So... what type of character are you thinking of playing?

Yup, I've read all of the books.  I've read the first series a couple of times - the Merlin set didn't do as much for me, so I think I've only read those once.

As far as character, I'm still working on that one.  I sent Jibba an outline - I'll wait until I get some more comments from him before saying much more.

Seems as good a place as any to say that I too would like to get (back) into Amber DRPG.  Lots of experience.
