This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone have any plans to attend Ambercon this year?
I have never attended , mainly cos I live in the UK.
Are they worth attending?
I feel the game is at a crossroads for a lot of reasons the biggest of which is Erick's illness. I think I would like to attend a gathering of the game as it is now as going forward there are like to be many changes.

I'll be there. I really enjoy seeing the people and reading the game blurbs.

I'm running four games through the 8 slots planned for Ambercon US.

Have you been to Ambercon UK (in Reading)?

I've been once, but thought it one of the best cons I'd been to

I've never been to an Ambercon either (or any con for that matter) and I'm curious too.

AmberCon US (Detroit, Michigan) in March.

AmberCon UK (Reading, UK) in July.

AmberCon NorthWest (Portland, Oregon) in November.

The Black Road (Marlborough, Massachusetts) in July.

AmberCon North (Toronto, Canada) is now defunct, it seems, along with Clan Amber (Edinburgh, UK) and Courts of Chaos (Raleigh, North Carolina).

I'll go halves on a room, who's up....?

I'd like to jump into Arref's game session too if possible.
I've always wanted to go....
I'm praying it works this year!

I'm hoping to make one of them this year, and it'll likely be ACNW.

I'd have tried for ACUS, but a recent financial "refocus" has made it an unlikely possibility.

RPGPundit

Damn; I'd love to do an Ambercon South America down here, but I don't think I'd be able to organize it right, nor is there enough of an Amber fan base.

Maybe next year I might be able to make it for the Detroit Ambercon, assuming its held in march each year.

I'd be happy if I could make it to AmberCon NorthWest. I've never been to an AmberCon, but I would seriously love to go... We'll see what the money situation is by summertime, then I'll decide for sure.
Running:
Dungeon Crawl Classics (influences: Elric vs. Mythos, Darkest Dungeon, Castlevania).

Likewise, I don't think the Amber fan base in Arizona and neighboring states would be enough... Maybe for a mini-con.

How many people usually attend AmberCons? Ccould someone in the know do a quick report? (I'd search for it but my comp time is limited for now...)

First off, here's the website that links to all the yearly Ambercons:

http://www.ambercons.com

Second, in past years there have been Ambercons in a lot of other locations, some big and persistent, others smaller and more transient. The biggest factor for an Ambercon sticking around is really the passion of the organizers, not the number of fans in any given area.

For example, there are probably more Amber Diceless players in Texas than most places, but (as far as I can recollect) there's never been a Lone Star Ambercon.

ACNW and ACUS are close to a hundred people the last few years.
The Black Road is about thirty-five the last few years.

These cons have an intimate scale with the FTF games taking place in suites and conference rooms.

When ACN (Toronto) was running, I don't think it was larger than forty.

But with seven to eight game slots, you get to meet new people and share the spectrum of Amber GM creativity.

There are definitely enough folks in the Texas-Southwest area to support a con. It requires a dedicated and passionate organizer with a small cadre of volunteers. And you can write to the other con organizers for suggestions and helpful 'lessons learned'.

If I had anything even approaching the time required to put one together, I'd organize a Lone Star Ambercon, but the time sinkholes of parenthood, freelance, and fulltime work makes it impossible.
