This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's a good way of looking at it. I usually play Trump as its own power, but I think that perspective is much influenced by how much I like the idea of Ghostwheel as its guardian.

Do you have a link to the post where you talked about this? I would like to read it. Very interesting thought/idea.

That's the trouble. You get this visual in your head, then the existence of a second Pattern throws it all out of whack. :)

Corwin's pattern is just another spike that branches out of the first one.

Hello everyone this is my first post.I have always thought the amberverse being a strait line from chaos to amber with infinity inbetween both. But now looking at nature i am leaning towards a fibinotchi sequence that spirals out from amber to the courts. If this would be the case then could there be short cuts in shadow since it wouldnt be a strait line?Maybe develope a power to do this or tweak a existing power.

I have a question has anyone ever done a game where you can go past the primal pattern or at the least go past amber? Is there anything beyond amber?

For that matter can you go sideways using the pattern or logrus?Instead of going forward to amber and back to chaos go sideways to other universes.

RPGPundit

Welcome to theRPGsite.

My feeling is that all the universe (chaos, shadow, amber, and Corwin's pattern) are surrounded by the Abyss, though protected by a kind of shell that is only breached in Chaos.

I though the Abyss was between the Courts of Chaos and shadow, and spanned by a bridge-not past the Courts.

I like your theory.I was going to run a campaign where one of the NPC's was fed up with everything and he wanted to go to other universes not controlled by amber or the courts. So I was going to have him have a ability i call the sands of time(my version of the well of eternity) and he would have the entropy power as well .He was going to use the entropy to destabilize and erode a very small part of shadow(human size)and use the sands of time to speed up the effected area and punch a hole throu shadow to somewhere else. The problem is that once he breached shadow all sorts of lovecraftian momsters would come pouring out.I never really fleshed out the idea but i thought it would be a cool plot device.

If i can find the web address and hopefully its still active i will post the link where the well of eternity is among other smaller powers

That's not Zelazny's idea of it, but it's still an interesting notion.

Actually you hit he Abyss before you reach the courts proper and Merlin is set to guard the bridge over the abyss one accumes from encroching Amberites so he is right :)

The Courts, like Amber itself, aren't very large.  They hang in space out over the Abyss and are reached via a bridge from the nearest fundament.  Beyond the Courts are just more Abyss.

The whole Amber multiverse cosmogony story closely parallels every Mediterranean cosmogony story ever, so I don't think Zelazny really intended it to be that complicated.
D&D is becoming Self-Referential.  It is no longer Setting Referential, where it takes references outside of itself. It is becoming like Ouroboros in its self-gleaning for tropes, no longer attached, let alone needing outside context.

I stand corrected.
That's what I get for only reading the Merlin cycle once.
