Title: Amber Campaign Website (1 complete session log)
Post by: Klaus on May 10, 2012, 09:46:27 PM
This is the website my brother and I put together for his online Amber campaign. I think we created a very interesting cast of characters and countries, if I do say so myself, so I wanted to share it here, as this is the most active Amber forum I know of. Fell free to hijack anything you find useful for your own games.

The most prominent (or at least entertaining) portions of the site are:

Amber and the Golden Circle (https://sites.google.com/site/cmattingly/setting/amber-and-the-golden-circle)
Contains history, geography, travel times and political information. Scroll down for the map (click to enlarge) and details on the Golden Circle.

Cast and character descriptions (https://sites.google.com/site/cmattingly/setting/cast)
This game owes a huge debt to John Biles' Through a Mirror Darkly (http://www.thekeep.org/~wombat/AmberRPG/Utena/index.html), emulated with permission. Many of our NPCs are the same as his, though many are different. The NPCs are Amberized versions of fictional characters, primarily from Evangelion and Utena. If you know those series, you know that those series represent a collection of dysfunctional schemers that would be right at home in any Amber game.

Logs (https://sites.google.com/site/cmattingly/logs)
Auction, where the GM tells us that every stat is the most important stat,  and one play session (with information removed to keep certain secrets).

Home (https://sites.google.com/site/cmattingly/Home)
Main page, with links to the rest of the site, including rules, character advice, details on the special auctions, templates for creating countries and Chaos house, etc.

Thanks for putting this stuff up, it was an interesting read...

...but am I the only one completely turned off by the idea of modifying Amber to have more stats?

Nice. It's always cool to see more Amber goodness on the web. (Seems like more and more of the older sites are slowly vanishing as time passes.)

You have some neat write-ups here.

I think it can work if done with thematic purpose.  I've run games where there was a fifth Attribute: "Corwin's Favour" in a Throne War game where the PCs were Corwin's scions in the universe created by his Pattern, and "Dworkin's Lore", which was how much you'd paid attention to what the old nutter had said about the true nature of the universe.

The proliferation of stats in this game makes me wonder, though.

I like the extra stats---it gives more flexibility in character creation (stuff like having a character without a lot of muscle who is none-the-less a great martial artist).

The problem there is Erick Wujcik lumping martial arts in with Strength so that there'd be some reason for taking it instead of bidding those points in Warfare instead, which is where martial arts actually belongs.

True enough.

But I like the way combat and tactical ability also get divided up (you can be a great sword fighter without also being a chess master).
