This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Alt Amber Campaign Option

This is in some sense derivative of any number of ideas that have come up here already, but I was just thinking it would be fun to use the ADRPG system to run a game set entirely on Earth. In this version there would be no other shadows, no Amber or Courts, etc, and the powers would only exist insofar as they work without shadow travel. I mostly just like the notion of weaving PC backstories into two thousand or more years of human history. It seems like a fun corrective to the problem that Amber sometimes shares with Star Trek wherein each planet / shadow always seems to consist of one titanic monoculture centered on one big city somewhere.

I'm not sure if this is at all what you mean, but one of the early campaigns I ran to introduce my players to Amber Diceless was a near-future game called Moonbase Diana where I had the Earth be similar to today's world only we had put a base on the moon and moved there and back with shuttle rockets.

No Trumps or shadows, although I allowed minimal ESP kinds of effects to occur if folks had a really strong Psyche.

I didn't go back to historical ages, however.

I've done similar before, and my players enjoyed it, though they were always bucking for more.  Apparently they really enjoy my Amber games, even when I think they're crap.  Stupid having players that are just flat out smarter than you :)

I've also started other games, and switched them to Amber after, which the players also really liked.
