He is the Guide, and she is the Will.
The Dark King, of House Hellam, born of dark eyes absent forgiveness, inherited a kingdom steeped in a history of blood, ambition, and a hunger for power. He plans to make his kingdom the ultimate and only authority, and to do that he must steal the world in a brutal war, but the path to true conquest requires a Queen.
The Night Queen, of House Baylor, had a childhood unlike any other heir to a throne. Raised within the heart of Celumbra, she was not only groomed for rule, but molded into a living vessel for her people. Her delicate features, framed by long, raven black hair, often betrayed a weariness beyond her years.
While other children played games of war, the Night Queen roamed the moonlit gardens of her castle home, guided by the whispers of her ancestors and the weight of her people's dreams. A unique sensitivity to the spiritual realm meant she often catches glimpses of the true nature of reality and her place within it; as the ruler of the night and the will of nightfall.
This is a grim world where nobility means nothing if you aren't strong, so strength and dominance are the driving force behind the wars that plague the world.
The characters
The Night Queen: Your character will play the Queen, and wields the burden of her people's thoughts, fantasies, and feelings. Your character is not just a queen, but a vessel for the souls of an entire kingdom. Wield that power to either manipulate them or champion their causes, and decide what kind of ruler you truly want her to be.
The Dark King: this character is not a simple villain, but a man deeply affected by his sense of duty and driven by a urge to uplift his people, even if it means resorting to ruthless methods. He's very loyal but also extremely brutal. He appears to be cold and distant/neutral but he has a soft heart and detests death.
NPCs: (Use 'Em or Lose 'Em)
Casualty is Expected, NPCs are not precious. In this setting, people die, are betrayed, or fade into obscurity or insignificance without a second thought. Don't get too attached because I won't. I'm not going to pull punches to keep your favorite barkeep alive if it makes sense for them to catch a stray arrow or be collateral damage.
I'll use NPCs to drive the plot forward, provide information, offer challenges, or act as punching bags for the main characters. They serve a purpose, and once that purpose is fulfilled, they might disappear entirely. It's up to you to keep the NPCs alive by protecting them or forming such a strong connection with the NPC that it makes sense to keep them around. I wouldn't mind getting attached to returning characters either (there will be plenty)
