This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Drohem;440424The half-orc pirate looks over at Jon sharply after his comment, he spits on the ground and says, "they're all the same, Meat."

"Which is why you are disarmed and bound, with your ship and crew gone, and we live and no longer have our shackles on. They are no more the same than you and I are now. Were you to realise and embrace this fact, you would likely find your life to be richer and more fulfilling. I in no way expect you to, but I can hope that wisdom would prevail and you would see how the Sea Captain has use of you if you'd dedicate yourself to Him." Jon replies quietly.

Hafkris looks back into Arnould's face, jerks his head toward Jon, and says dryly, "so, it's torture then, eh?  For a minute there I thought you weren't going to torture me."

Jon frowns sadly at Halfkris and says, "I'd wager torture is all you've ever known. Only you know for sure, but if you'd like to know another way, you are free to ask me and I'll share one with you." Jon then walks forward towards the front of the line of castaways.

Hafkris' question bothers Arnould to the core. If we torture him, how then are we any different than the people who brought us on this ship, in the first place. What does that make us? Butchers in service of our own instincts of revenge? What kind of solace would that bring? Do we have any real choice in this? Did the half-orc make a choice for himself, or is he just surrendering to the needs of a broken spirit born out of years of abuse and bizzare predicaments?

He throws the orc back on the ground. "The potential of your survival is in our hands, that is true. But consider this: this is just as much your decision as it is ours. Either you cooperate, and you will see your treatment become gradually better, or you choose to remain true to your mean self, and you will find yourself alone, isolated... and most probably dead. Who knows what might be lurking out there waiting for you to be its next meal? The choice, ultimately, is yours to take."

Without his arms free to balance himself, Hafkris hits the ground hard and with jarring force.  He moans as he rolls over onto his back, and then he breaks out in laughter as he sits up.

Looking up at Arnould, he says in a jovial tone as he spits dirt from his lips, "you got sand, Boyo.  Ya got no humor, but ya got sand.  Look, believe me or not, I don't care, but I'm telling you they're all dead and we're all that's left after the Bitch Queen took her due."

Arnould looks at Hafkris long and hard. He then closes his eyes, turns and starts walking away, westward. He stops, looks over his shoulder, and finally answers: "I believe you."

He then starts walking again, determined to find shelter as soon as possible.

"Did I miss something? We're not really offering salvation to a wretched creature that helped enslave us, calls us "Meat", and betrayed his own captain?" Jono makes the disgust on his face very apparent. "He gave up what we need to know: we're wrecked, Gods only know where, and the fiends that brought us here have met their demise. Perhaps if I were back home, on a hunt with my brother, I might feel more forgiving."

Anger flashes across the half-orc pirate's face at Jono's claim about Captain Mauser, and he says passionately, "that sorry sack of shit betrayed his crew by sailing us directly into the Bitch Queen's belly!  That son of bitch got what was coming to him for killing my mates, along with the other Mea... Er, slaves!"

Arnould stops. He does not pay attention to Hafkris.

His head turns slowly towards Jono, then his whole body. He slowly steps forward: "So what do you want to do, now? The wretch gave us all the information we seek, after all. You want to join him now and be a murderer of helpless people yourself? You want your revenge?"

He stops in front of Jono. "If you want to kill him, you can go ahead. Use your hands, and strangle him right this minute. I sure am not going to lend you a blade for the job. Look into his eyes during all those long minutes it will take you to take his life away and wonder."

He stares at Jono.

"Wonder how, exactly, that makes you any different from the likes of him."

Tommy Brownell

"I have no forgiveness for a creature that made its life on the literal backs of others. To a man, we were ripped away from our homes and our loved ones because of him and his ilk. Even though we are off of that ship, the elements, hunger or who knows what else may still kill some or all of us. Either luck or cowardice let him survive death. The difference between him and I, is that I did not choose to be here, to rip people from their lives. Apparently, the difference between you and I is that I am smart enough to realize that by choice, or by nature, he is a servant of evil. Neither one is better than the other."

"Nobody is a servant of evil that realizes it and chooses to come back to the light. He has a choice, just like you do in acting on your desire to kill him. Do what you must."

Arnould walks away from Jono.

Arnould walks away from Jon.

"If you insist on dragging him along, then you hold his chains. That way, when he turns on us, any sane persons will have your screams as a warning."

Jono shakes his head in disgust and makes a wide berth from the murdering slaver who has somehow managed to buy his passage with drunken ramblings and absolutely no admission of remorse.

"That's what I thought."

Arnould gets to Hafkris. "If you want to live, you will not try my patience."

He takes a hold of the chains. "We need to find shelter."

listening to the exchange between the others as I keep a look out for any likely eyebrow hieght staff materials and bright colors in the trees/shrubs that may indicate some sort of food. "A fine fettle indeed!"
Chuckling to myself as I trek along "Now there's a thought! Halfkris can be our exotic fruit taster, though not much good after the first poisonous one!" Rope is coiled and hanging around my left shoulder.
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Jon shakes his head at Jono's words, "Perhaps Valkur brought us here to save this man's soul. He is a sailor, same as I and my family and ancestors, no matter what he does to others, he lives and dies by the sea same as many of us. As my father has often said, 'all we can do is show others how to live a good life by living one ourselves. The Sea Captain watches over us and protects us from Umberlee's rages, and in return we must aid and forgive each other and respect the sea that gives us life.' Kill this man, who has probably known very little joy in life, and you become him. Ask Valkur what to do, he will guide you." Jon trudges on.
