This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

BTW, guys, I don't think you have to post your characters up for all to see, though I do think Dan needs to see them. I volunteered to do this to serve as an example. It would  be cool if you could post up their names and general information.

BTW, "creamberries" are an extraordinarily rare species of berry, considered to be one of the greatest gustatory delights in the world. Baking the pie is a tiny matter next to actually finding creamberries. :D

Miss Mooncalf
Miss Mooncalf is a bit of a rare sort among her lot, the Celestial Philosophers, being both young and female.  While, certainly, the lofty towers of the Celestial Philosophers attract their share of both youthful apprentices and the fairer sex, the fact remains that the confluence of the two have placed her in a noticeable minority.  Minority status aside, Miss Mooncalf is also a bit of an odd bird, a dark-haired, dark-eyed girl approaching her nineteenth summer, notably prone to a starry-eyed gaze and questionable grooming.  Pretty-ish, though not particularly so, rumor has it that she cleans up nicely, though evidence to this effect is both scant and anecdotal.  For the most part, Miss Mooncalf is content to clamber and gambol from tower to rooftops, all tousled hair, smudged face, and skinned knees.

Miss Mooncalf finds herself in an interesting, if difficult position of late.  On one hand, she is unusually adept at the ascertainment and interpretation of celestial portents, so much so that she has inadvertently gained the quiet enmity of Madam Far-Eyes, the woman who, by all counts, should be Miss Mooncalf's mentor, were it not for the latter's distractibility.  This same distractibility, in fact, leads to the other hand, Miss Mooncalf's unhealthy interest in affairs terrestrial – in particular, her enthusiasm for working with the Trailblazers, and perhaps more particularly, the young Captain Farstrider.  The young captain has put her sharp eyes, keen mind, and practical sensibilities to work for the good of the Tralblazers of late, which detracts significantly from her duties and devotions in the tower.  Miss Mooncalf has also cultivated earthbound relationships among the community that has grown up around the base of the tower, bartering and bargaining among the stalls for local oddities that turn up on occasion, and a somewhat naive friendship with the seemingly great-hearted Big Bertha.  She seems to admire the glamour of the ladies' trade, without quite grasping the full implication of their affairs.

I'm actually a little uncomfortable with the notion of Madam Far-Eyes as an open enemy, but I wanted to provide a counterpoint to her being pressed -- all too willingly -- into service by the Trailblazers.  Otherwise, I'm quite pelased with Miss Mooncalf.

Cool character concept, Ian! I like her little backstory! :D

How about you other guys? If you aren't posting the whole character, can you give us a glimpse of them, what our characters would know?

One Horse Town

The process so far has shaken out a couple of poorly worded bits in chargen, so all is cool. I would really like to see what the others come up with! :)  As ever, any questions, fire away...also, if you loose the urge to participate, please let us know so we can continue (not saying you are, we're all busy people after all!).

I'll post up my draft for the character tonight when I get home.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

Sorry guys. Much as I'd love to stay involved I'm having bail out of my existing gaming commitments almost entirely. After several attempts at juggling my schedule I've come to the realisation that there's simply no longer any space for Stone Horizons.

I'll continue reading the threads with great interest. Have a great game! :)

Okay, here's my proposed character. Let me know if I did all the procedures right:

Scout Capitan Soarhigh (self-promoted)

A loud-mouthed and irresponsible but jolly and loyal glider pilot, Scout Capitan Soarhigh (title only used in the company of groundplodders) is a happy-go-lucky flier who's often more trouble than he's worth. Completely lost in the largely fictional dreams of his own glory and bravado, he exudes an aura of reckless posturing that annoyes the hell out of some but impresses others. With his eccentric leather cap, long striped scarf and mighty rust-coloured moustache, he certainly possesses an appearance that lends some credibility to his tales of daring exploits and exotic adventures.
Since arriving into the area with the rest of his group, he has taken a strong liking to Cullum the Brawn, whom he has found to be a kindred jolly soul and always a good person to bum some money off of. Being generally much closer to the ground than himself, Cullum also looks like a good person to ally with for an actual adventure: the acquisition of some ore from the meteor that fell. One of Soarhigh's great goals in life is to create a glider that can climb upwards without finding a hot air vent – and thus have a range only limited by the pilot's need to sleep, eat and drink – and, well, a rock that can fly in the sky – all right, fall in the sky – might just hold some clue on how to go about doing that.

Pragmatism   3

Skills: Pilot (glider) 3, Climb 2, Scavenge 2, Haggle 1, Spot 1, Athletics 2, Fists 1
Special Abilities: Cool 4, Endurance 2

Open Affiliations:

Eyrie – 1
Cullum the Brawn – 1

(and 1 secret rivalry)

Goals & Ambitions:

- Confirming or refuting the existence of the Braying Bat of Black Belfry, and taming one of its young if it exists.
- Creating or acquiring a glider that can ascend without hot air vents.
- Finding the long-lost Golden Banner of Talonbeak, a revered glider pilot hero.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

Nicephorus

Thanks to Clash for this idea.

 Foxgrin

Foxgrin is big guy with red hair and  beard.  He is slightly roundish but there is also evidence of muscle.  He naturally looks like a thug aside from his sly smile.  His red hair and constant grin are the source of his name.

He came from elsewhere as a teenager.  His size enabled him to get a job helping Slop.  With luck and a charming smile, he was able to get transferred to bordello guard.  He does a lot of standing around looking big in the front rooms of whore houses.  He also sends messages for Mr. Greengrass and collects payments from madams.  He likes his work ok but is not enthused about crime or enforcing.  He started with Slop because he needed to eat.  He doesn't have much fondness or respect for Mr. Greengrass or Tongs but minds his manners for health reasons.  He is one of the few with respect for Slop as the guy actually does something.

Foxgrin really likes his current position as it gives him a window to tidbits of the sort he likes to collect.  He listens more than he talks which makes many girls and clients open up to him – he's spent countless hours helping girls with their hair or nails and listening to their problems..  He is careful to notice who sees which girl and who secretly sneers behind another's back.  He knows things like which prostitute he escorted to the Observers tower one night.  He has noted which trailblazers have taken a special liking to their new location.  He loves secretly collecting knowledge but rarely spreads gossip himself.  He and Big Bertha occasionally compare notes in the wee hours.  He is cautiously ambitious, holding his cards until the right moment for a new position.

The trailblazers have presented Foxgrin with new ambitions.  He sees their work as daring and important instead of the leech lives of most of Star Bay.  Killing vermin in the alleys was an interesting challenge but, no matter how big a lizard you kill, no one cares.  He wants a chance to step it up a level.

Since I've just given Mistress Rouondheels' stats, I should also give a small bio.

Mistress Roundheels is the daughter of a courtesan in the Baron's capital area. While pretty enough, she was no match for her mother, a celebrated beauty, who had magnificent lifestyle before being killed in a lover's quarrel. Because of this upbringing, she has an exaggerated idea of her own worth, and considers herself a cut above the normal prostitute. She has some disjoint bits of education and culture, and uses these plus her own charms to entice the higher class of client available in the area. Her current favorite customer is Culum the Brawn, whom she attempts to please to the best of her ability. Sergeant Yeller treated her vilely, the one time he used her services, and she detests the sight of him. She hopes one day to parlay her talents and proclivities into a magnificent house of pleasure of the kind seen only in the capital.

Great stuff guys! Only one thing to comment on regards Premier's character (which is obviously something that isn't apparent in the rules, thanks for catching it guys!). Your allocated special ability points are to be spent on just 1 ability, giving you 2 dice in that ability and therefore a chance of gaining a success. :)

Just 1 thing on Nicephorus' character too. This is the rather subjective goals & ambitions. These are meant to be things that are hard to achieve, which i expect the first one will be, bar the fact that you can choose to change features after gaining a level and if you goal is tied to that, is would be possible to gain 2 levels at once! I think i had an example in the 'poor goals' section about joining or leading a feature. It might be worth thinking abut making it even more specific so that it isn't directly tied to joining a new feature. Same goes for the second one really. You can humiliate someone fairly easily. Try to be more specific and bear in mind that it should take some time and effort to achieve.

Do folks want me to mail you the skills, abilities and combat chapters or should we deal with it as and when it comes up? Up to you really. :)

Nicephorus

I did the goals last in a hurry.  How about changing the 2nd one to humiliate Hollering Jack to the point that he leaves Star Bay?

I recognized that joining would be too easy - he wants to be a sergeant or troop leader in the trailblazers, which should take either a long commitment or doing something really impressive.

I fell afoul of both of these points when I first made up Mistress Roundheels, guys! :D
