Post by: Dodger on May 13, 2012, 12:58:05 AM
Is anyone interested in playing some WFRP2e?

Hell yeah. Since Spike's Traveller PBP seems to be in Limbo, I suppose I can commit. I'm in.

Groovy. What sort of character do you fancy playing?

Are we rolling Careers or choosing them?

If we're picking it's going to be a tough choice, but I think Protagonist is the best Career ever. What sort of game do you have in mind?

I'm thinking choose them.

I've not got anything rigidly specific in mind, apart from a general theme/arc which can be approached in a variety of ways so, given the fact that the turnaround in a PbP game gives me the opportunity to prepare on the fly, I'm happy to jive and play it by ear.

So roll up a character, we'll get started and more people can join in as we go.

The starting location is Nuln and the era is a rewind to before the Storm of Chaos (but after the initial Chaos incursion - i.e. the same as the current 3e setting).

Awesome. I'm going to open a separate thread for the actual game, and keep this one for recruitment/admin/other crap.

I don't see much point in having separate IC and OOC threads, as long as people make it obvious what's being said IC.

OK, let's roll up this bastard. I'll call him Dieter Jundt, and he'll be a human. Since we're picking Careers, I'll wait 'til I'm done with the random stuff and then pick something appropriate.

Let's start with characteristics... holy shit! Those are some good rolls. I'll ask for Shallya's Mercy on Agility, too.

Now for random talents... Luck and Very Strong. Goody-goody. Let's factor this in on my Strength score.

Now for Wounds and Fate Points. Not a lot of variation there.

Now these background charts... well, I fucked up which are 1d0 and which are 1d100 and rolled a bunch of unnecessary dice, twice. I'll roll for star sign and bullshit the rest, assuming Dodger's OK with it. And it's Vobist The Faint, Sign of Darkness and Uncertainty. Neato.

Oh, I'll roll a Distinguishing Mark too, it's just not WFRP without one of those... um, MIssing Nail. OK. I guess.

Now for career. For those of you wondering, of course it's fucking Protagonist. WS and S are just right. BTW I'll be taking that free advance in Strength, because Dieter is one big fella.

Dieter Jundt, Protagonist

Male human, 19 years old, 6', 175lb of muscle and menace, red hair, copper eyes
Main Profile
WS BS S T Ag Int WP Fel
37 34 41 31 31 34 31 30
Secondary Profile
A W SB TB M Mag IP FP
2 12 4 3 4 0 0 3

Skills
Dodge Blow
Haggle
Intimidate
Ride

Talents
Disarm
Luck
Menacing
Street Fighting
Strike Mighty Blow
Strike To Injure
Strike To Stun
Very Strong

Trappings
8gc in purse
Common clothing
Dagger
Hand weapon (sword)
Medium armor (mail shirt & leather jack)
Riding horse with saddle and harness
Shield
Sling Bag with Wooden Tankard and Wooden Cutlery

Dieter is a big city rat, a brash malcontent who's never been up to any good in his life. Beating up people is his game and he happens to be fairly good at it, but he's no idiot. He doesn't want to spend the rest of his life as a two-bit thug, though, so he's always on the lookout for the Big Score that'll make him rich (or die trying), or earn the notice of some noble or rich merchant or underworld bigshot who'll pay him more money, presumably to beat people even harder than he already does.

Dieter is big, burly and menacing, with a thick red beard, broken nose and a missing nail (the latter courtesy of particularly sadistic Watchman who once got a hold of him).

Here (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/search/1024497/) are the rolls, BTW. The characteristic ones are OK, it's the Background ones that are a mess.

Excellent. Okay, I'll start the new thread (Dodger's WFRP2e Game) shortly with some wordy scene-setting and my first challenge will be to unsubtly railroad you two together. ;)

FYI, I'm going to use normal typeface for "IC" descriptions and conversations, and italic for OOC stuff.

I may sometimes drop in spoiler text - this will be "behind the scenes" stuff for non-players' entertainment so please don't read any spoilers until I give the explicit go-ahead, which i'll do when appropriate.

This is my first time GMing a PbP so I hope you'll cut me a bit of slack and, equally, feel free to chip in with suggestions, etc.

Used the generator at sup-tg.  I'm lazy, shut up.

Marcus Leifholt

Hailing from the northern Empire, Marcus went south after the war, chasing brigands and malcontents until he finally reached Nuln.  He doesn't really care for the city, it's dirty and the air smells like soot, but Marcus has been worse places, and the beer is decent.  He's unsure if he should head back towards home, or push to the Border Princes.

Roadwarden (63)

WS: Shallya's Mercy = 31
BS: 8 + 10 + 20 + 5 = 43
S: 9 + 3 + 20 = 32
T: 6 + 8 + 20 = 34
Ag: 6 + 4 + 20 = 30
Int: 7 + 5 + 20 = 32
WP: 4 + 1 + 20 = 30 (+5%)
Fel: 2 + 5 + 20 = 27
Attacks: 1
Wounds: 7 = 12
SB: 32 S = 3

Rope (10 yards)
Light Warhorse (saddle and harness)
Common Clothing (shirt, breeches, tattered cloak, worn boots)

Dirty Hugo has traveled to Nuln because he has heard that it may be at the threshold of a burgeoning food crisis--which Hugo sees as an opportunity for personal profit.  Hugo hunts the land around Nuln and brings game back to the city to be sold at market.  Hugo plans on raising the prices on his game as food becomes scarcer and scarcer.  Schemes like these are what have earned Hugo the nickname "Dirty Hugo," and are also the reason why he's no longer welcome in the Mootlands.

Crap, BS should 50.  (2d10+30 for being halfling [I rolled a 10, giving me 40, +5 Marksman talent, +5 first advance)  I think this was a typing mistake.

T should be 31 (2d10+10 [I rolled an 16, giving me 26] +5 Very Resilient).

Do these look right now?

Sorry 'bout that!

Quick question: I realize now that I don't know how you prefer we do our rolls.

Also, how do we tell the number of successes?  Is that new to 2e?

Quote from: misterguignol;540034Also, how do we tell the number of successes?  Is that new to 2e?

I'm not familiar with 1e so I don't know, but in 2e, each 10% of difference between the target number and the dice result is counted as one degree of success (or failure, as the case may be). For example, Dieter has INT 34 and rolled a 4, so he gets exactly 3 degrees of success. If he had rolled a 29, he'd be looking at success with zero degrees (I'm not making this up!). A 55 would be two degrees of failure, etc.

Successes is as The Butcher described it.

For dice-rolling, Invisible Castle seems cool.

The reason I'll ask for the number of successes is for situations where there are different potential outcomes. For example, if Huge had passed his Perception test by zero successes, he'd have been able to hear some snatches of a conversation between some guys at a table behind him. One clear success would have also enabled him to overhear the whole conversation, not just snatches. Two successes would have meant that he could hear another conversation happening at the other end of the bar, and three successes would have enabled him to listen in on Dieter's conversation.

I'll sometimes make secret rolls, where appropriate. For example, Marcus has already failed a Gossip test that I rolled to find out what he might have heard/learnt above and beyond the information I supplied in the introduction, while he was drinking in the tavern before the rest of you arrived. :)

Dirty Hugo would like more details on the job as well.  Specifically: how much time do we have to make a plan?  If we have enough time I say we draw the mark as far away from the target zone as possible instead of going for a brute force ambush.
