This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Drohem;419359Rissthil looks to Cadfan and shakes his head negatively as he says, "no, thank you, but I'll respect Cadfan's decision to only let two of us see Delbaeth.  I'll wait here with the others."

"Rissthil, my friend, while these good people check our injured brother, maybe we could ask the remaining people to start working on the platform. If we're to descend safely and try to rescue those people, we better get moving. That man over there (pointing to Ylaruam) has several retainers, we have many hands available"

I wait for Rissthil to take the lead. If he doesn't, I'll move from group to group asking for hands to rebuild the platform.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

OOC - If I remember right, you have to roll under your attribute to do any kind of skillish type activity right? I'm definitely under on a 14.

Rissthil looks at Gareth and smiles, and then turns to Ylarum and says, "Gareth has a point.  It's time to get to work on this platform.  Will your men do this kind of work?"

Addressing the two half-orcs, Rissthil asks, "what say you, Runch and Tudd, are you willing to do some construction too before we descend into the deep dark below?"

DM: Actually, no. There is no such rule in the game, and I try to keep these kinds of "skill rolls" to a minimum, mainly because this is one of the defining aspects of AD&D for you to tell me what you do, and for me, as a referee, to determine what it accomplishes. When I think the outcomes are just not clear and may vary depending on what you described to me, then I may ask you for a die roll. If I do so, I am actually more likely to use my own resolution system (tweaked from my OD&D rules), which I'm going to explain in the OOC thread.
___

Inspecting the mechanism, you feel it actually is operational. You determine it would take some amount of abuse for it to fully break down. With the right amount of pulleys and ropes, and a functional platform or basket, it might carry about four loaded people without problem. The hit the machine took earlier seems to have damaged its casing superficially, for the most part.

Cranewings

Nimtem looks at the device thoughtfully for a few minutes and says, "I think this thing is in better shape than we are giving it credit for... most of this damage is superficial. It can still carry about 3 or 4 people without a problem. We could probably still improve it if we have time."

Drohem

Rissthil looks at Nimten and says happily, "now, that's the spirit."

"See, just a little bit of spit and polish is needed, and we'll have it in working order double quick," he says to everyone else around.

Quote from: Sigmund;419265"Ok Runch," Tudd gives the bug a last glare as he rises, shaking his finger at it when Runch turns away. He straightens and adjusts his shield and armor, then stoops to grab the wicked morningstar he had left lying on the floor. He catches sight of the female as she talks and says in a loud whisper, "Hey brudder, she's got red hair. That's a big hole in tha floor."

Putting my hand on Tudds shoulder, drawing closer to whisper "Aye,true on both accounts. Now be polite to the lady, she is in needs of help and we a job.Lets go introduce ourselves." Pulling on his arm a bit I walk to Angharad. Bowing deeply "M'lady, I am Runch and this is my brother Tudd." I gently pull him to the fore as I glance briefly at the yawning entrance and the piled equipments.

Turning back to Angharad, spreading open my cloak to expose the amulet of Charllathan and my weaponry "Having some skill in arms and furtherance to the afflicted. We are yours if you'll have us, as it seems likely both talents may be required in this task you set." as I gesture to the shaft.

Drawing close to the edge, peering into the dark pit before answering as I rub my chin distractedly "Yes,yes."I go examine the gear strewn about, nudging the piled rope with my foot and turning the crank a few times before walking over to the large kegs set in the wall...rejoining Riss. and Nim. I gesture to the kegs "Mayhaps there are some empties about that we could make use of,Ollom willing?" with a slight raising of an eyebrow...
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

She nods gently towards you as she tries to follow the deliberations going on around you.

She waves as to dismiss any doubt you think she would have about your ability to face the present situation. "Any help is more than welcome."

"Runch, is it? Given I have no way to speak for my uncle and set guarantees of reward for you and your companions beyond what my beliefs tell me to be true, I am more than grateful you decided to stick around and help us in this endeavor."

DM: This is actually standard hemp rope. There were actually several ropes linked to the pulley, then at different small metal hoops around the well, linked to different areas of the platform (see the map, where the small dots around the well indicate the positions of the hoops).
