This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

OK, we're just waiting on jarulf's character at this point. For simplicity's sake, we'll assume they've been there the entire time and simply haven't spoken yet.

Background

Jhan is the third son of Daffyd and Eileen in Carlaw. The Albwr is an extended clan of burghers and some free farmers, many practice various crafts. Jhan's uncle is a silversmith, there is distant cousin who is a trader and so on.
Jhan had served his father, a locksmith who specialises in simple mechanical devices and wind-up toys for the wealthy as apprentice for a few years. Through his uncle he became involved on the fringes of the Coiners Heresy, but has not taken the step to full membership. He received training as a burglar, he had many oportunties to visit the homes of the wealthy doing his father's errands, and used these to locate items of value. This information was then passed on to the Coiners. Later he would start using this information for his own benefit which resulted in stern reprimands and boring lectures about the common good.

When he showed little inclination to fall in line, he was sent away into the country to visit with distant relations, a poor knight of somber demeanor who, it was hoped, would bring some sense to the boy. Jhan stayed about 6 months before he decided his fortuned lay elsewhere. This was 5 years ago, and he has wandered aimlessly since then surviving by his skills.

By the time you return to the village green, trade has begun in deadly earnest between shepherds and villagers. Only Adalbert seems removed from the commotion, lounging drunk and happy in the mid-morning spring sunlight next to the same cozy cookfire. He waves lazily as you pass, and says "Best of luck then!"

North, north, north, you go, and perhaps a little west. Southerners joke that Axrew is nothing but mud, rock and sheep, and at least the first two are in abundance. Though the first thaw has come, the last remnants of snowdrifts hang on in dells and lees across the heath.

It's hours of walking, easily into the mid-afternoon, and the hill has been coming down from the horizon for some time now. It's a stony bulge jutting out from sodden earth, easy enough to follow even if you do divert around a sudden dip or three.

On the far side of the hill, trees begin to group together more closely, waxing into forest somewhere in the distance. There is the sound of dogs barking far off, and Dewin the raven shrieks overhead.

Akrasia, Dewin has spotted something. You can share his perceptions as I understand the familiar bond, so when you do that, here's what you see:

A young man with a cudgel and a piglet under his arm is near the pond, running, being pursued by a gang of armed men with dogs. He's running around the south end, crossing your path. You're perhaps two kilometres off - fifteen minutes or so at a run.

Pics are boy and men, respectively

Cranewings

Engeram casts a concerned glance to Brice as he receives the psychic image. The knuckles of his right hand turn white as he tightens his grip on his spear.

Akrasia

Bryce stops suddenly as he hears Dewin's sharp caw from overhead.  The young sorcerer's grey eyes look unfocused for a few moments.  He then turns to his compatriots and says in an urgent tone, "My friends, a young boy is being attacked by a band of ruffians nearby.  If we rush, we may be able to intercept him before he comes to harm!"

Bryce then darts off in the direction of the boy, readying his light crossbow.

Jarulf

Jhan had been keeping a little to himself at the back of the group, he wasn't much of a talker and had gotten used to keeping his own company over the last few years. That he had volunteered to help with this mission still surprised him. He'd been holed up in the village, like the rest, and had come to know some of villagers a little better and been treated well. There was a farmer's daughter with long black hair and huge eyes, not that those eyes ever turned his way - but still. He gave a mental shrug. So he wanted to give a little back, perhaps.

Then Bryce suddenly said something about a boy, which Jhan only caught the gist of before the man took off.

"What?", he looked up from his woolgathering and started to follow the sorcerer.  Aren't we involved enough already., he thought in mild irritation as he drew a dagger.

Amra was a bit to the right of the line of march (returning from a private concern) and looks up (from fastening belt) upon hearing an urgent voice (Bryce?) seeing  Bryce's back side as he takes foot,(readying his crossbow!?). Running through the group to catch Bryce I quip "By the gods...Is he mad?" and follow while nocking an arrow...

Llum

Sighard readies his kite shield and loosens his longsword while running after Bryce and the others. With his long legs he can easily keep up with everyone else.

Drohem

Without a word, Norel throws his beard over his shoulder and quickly picks up his pace and jogs after Bryce.  As he falls into a steady pace, he pulls his ball & chain off his belt and holds the ball against the shaft between his fingers to keep it as quiet as possible.
