This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"If I were at full strength, I could try to attack the swarm with fire, but I would run the risk of both angering the creatures and damaging the surroundings. With the strength I have at my disposal at the moment, and considering the risk a full attack runs, I think we are better off sticking to the less aggressive aproach. Bryce is far more skilled with living creatures than I, however. Do you have any means with which to control or drive off the swarm Bryce?" Alric replies.

"Alas, I do not. My powers are limited to avians. I can exercise no influence over the vile bugs. Consequently, I am happy to attempt to drive them away by non-magical means."

So now we'll go into a round by round break down of the entire process of harvesting wood...

;)

Whoever wants to be in charge of this process, give me an idea of where you're setting up the fire in the temple and a Nature Lore roll at +50% to harvest the wood & set the fire safely. Critical success will let you get it done in an hour, otherwise it'll take two, putting you around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
Running
The Pernicious Light, or The Wreckers of Sword Island;
A Goblin\'s Progress, or Of Cannons and Canons;
An Oration on the Dignity of Tash, or On the Elves and Their Lies
All for S&W Complete
Playing: Dark Heresy, WFRP 2e

"If someone can gather materials for making the fire, I can meditate and attempt to regain more of my magical strength before starting and controlling the fire." Alric says as he moves to the adjacent room to settle down into a meditative position on the floor, setting the lantern next to him and placing his staff and loaded crossbow on the floor as well.

Norel says, "alright, Alric, that sounds good.  Too many foremen mucks up a job anyway.  Let's move back out of the temple chamber and into the room with the debris and refuse."

Norel moves back into the chamber with the refuse and debris, and where they found the bear's den.  Norel will start gathering material to start and maintain a fire there.  He will also start gathering green material to burn and create thick smoke.

OOC: Norel rolled 43% on his Nature Lore check (129% with bonus).

Akrasia

Bryce will help Norel collect materials for the fire over the next hour.  He also will instruct Devin to stay alert, and report any suspicious activities outside.

Gathering wood is easy, with only a bit of drudge work hauling it back. The thick brush is dry, and the three of you can break it with your hands and weapons to get it through the cracks and back in. Green shoots and wood take only a little bit longer, but there are a few dwarf pine trees in thin soil closer to the mountain rock that you can almost tear out by hand.

Devin follows you around, hopping along the roof of the building and church, and laughing at the silly things mankind does.

It's only a couple of hours before you have a waist high pile arranged for ignition, and when the flame catches, it whooshes upwards on a plume of sweet smelling smoke. The cracks in the temple encourages the fire, as drafts from finger-thin cracks stoke the flame, and the whole place starts to fill up with smoke. Fortunately, the stone and dirt floors aren't flammable, so the flame remains contained on the spot you built it.

At this point, you retreat outside to avoid asphyxiation and to let the fire run itself out. Dewin alerts you that the bear is outside, heading down the mountain and away from the fire. One part of the field around the temple looks like an undulating wave of dirt, but a closer look reveals rats fleeing en masse. And of course, the wasps.

The wasps are thumb-thick monsters with orange stripes, bigger and nastier than anything down in the lowlands, perhaps not even natural. The swarm hangs in the air above the temple and the buzz of their wings sounds like plucked wire. They seem unwilling to reenter so long as the smoke remains.

After a few minutes, smoke stops pouring out of holes as rapidly, as the fire burns itself out. Alric, having been around fires for years, you know this means it has burnt down, and the same drafts that fed air in to the fire will be sending good air in for you to breathe.

Wet rags over your faces, you plunge once more into the now smoke-filled temple...

Back to the Main Hall, or did you want to investigate the bear's room, or some other rooms first?

Inside then, and only a few minutes later, you stand back in the main hall. The smoldering heap of char that was the bonfire sits between the pillars and the main temple doors. The pillars are blackened with smoke, as are the designs on the walls and floor, but the fire doesn't seem to have done much actual damage thanks to the wisdom of the ancient in building the entire place out of stone.

Smoke rolls past the altar but avoids touching it, or even entering the pillar of light around it.

after a moment of silence while everyone takes in the scene, Norel says, "well, Bryce, will you fly other there or send your companion first to check it out?"

Akrasia

Bryce closes his eyes, furrows his brow in concentration, and mutters some eldritch words.  He then rises slowly into the air!

(Roll of 28 on sorcery skill -- a success.)

Bryce will levitate himself over to the silver.  He'll try to collect it up, without overburdening himself, but if there is any sign of danger, he'll retreat as quickly as possible.

For now I'll spend 2 magic points, which should give Bryce a movement rate of either 8 or 10 metres (the example is somewhat confusing on this, as it states that spending 4 points will confer a movement rate of 14 m).

Now in the air, Bryce floats toward the silver, wary of any possible threat...
