This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's not what you see, Norel, but what you hear. You're digging through pots near the paired set of doors on the far wall when you hear growling, chuffing and scraping on the other side of the doors, and then something slapping once against the floor, followed by more scraping.

So, what's the plan? You're all in the larger of the two rooms except for Bryce (unless he wants to be). The door on the far end of the room is the one you heard the noise behind. It's a sturdy door, but unlocked if you want to test it.

Norel puts his finger to his lips making the Shh! gesture, and then walks as quietly as possible over to the door from which he heard the noise.  He turns to his companions and points to the door with his weapon, and pantomimes opening the door.  He only waits for a few moments before turning to face the door and open it.  As he opens it, he stands to the side of the doorway on the open side.

OOC: Norel failed his Deception check and passed his Perception check.

seeing Norels intent I nod and go to full draw, taking a bead on the center of the door...breathing in...

This must have been the library for this ancient complex, as scroll racks lay knocked over across the floor and pushed up against the walls. The parchment scrolls and leather-bound codices are now gathered together in a great heap on the floor. A massive brown bear curls up atop them, snacking on a deer leg with gusto.

Behind it, you can see where part of the wall has collapsed and been torn out, leaving a partially-submerged tunnel the animal must squeeze through to get in and out. A cold wind blows in through it, ruffling the bear's fur and carrying its musk to your nostrils.

The bear hears the door open and its head looks in the direction of the open door, and at you, Norrel. It lets go of the deer leg and makes a popping noise with its jaw in your direction.

I love that bear picture. Room's about 5m x 5m, and the floor is covered in crap. It'd be treacherous footing. On the other hand, the room you're in gives the bear tons of room to charge. Only Norrel and Amra can clearly see the bear at this point, but anyone else who wants can at least get a glimpse of it. Alric, Bryce, you're both back with the main party if you'd like.

"BEAR!" Norel yells as he lets his hold on the ball and chain of his weapon swing free for attack and takes a step backward parallel with the wall and way from the door opening.

OOC: DEX 9 for initiative.

"What do you see, Master Dwarf?" Bryce inquires from the large room, cautiously readying his crossbow.

"Hiya BEAR!"
If the door opened into our room I rush forward and kick it closed!
If it opened into "Barts" room I step back slowely, a bit to the opp. side of Norel and await the bears move.

The bruin rises to its feet slowly, yawns, sniffs the air, and then scuffs the pile of papers a few times. It seems wary, but not aggressive. A cool wind blows through the room from an unseen source, and you can see little blasts of mist from its nostrils.

Door opens inwards to the bear, Amra.

So, what's the plan here? The bear's chilling in his den, atop a pile of ancient, and very valuable codices and scrolls, but he seems more concerned with the deer haunch than you. There's at least one other entrance out of your room (further into the building) that you haven't tried yet if you want to detour around.

Seeing that the bear is currently occupied with eating the deer haunch, Norel slowly reaches in and tries to close the door without provoking the bear.

Easily done, though the bear watches you with curiosity as the door closes. After the long winter, he clearly wants to recuperate his strength and eat rather than pick a fight with a gang of strangers.

Relaxing draw a bit as I exhale "Whew!"...then cast a sheepish grin at Norel!

Speaking softly, Bryce asks: "What else was in that room with the bear, Amrakhan and Norel?  Anything of importance to our mission?"
