This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The writing is two lines of graffiti in chalk, not carved into the stone. Whoever did it was well-practiced at writing, for the letters are finely formed. It starts as a list of names:

"BRUMLEY MARIK GUNTHER ALBERT ERNST BROTHERS OF DAGMAR WERE HERE"

The second line appears more choppy, with the spacing uneven as if the names were written first and the comments on their status filled in second. It's been smudged in a few places, either by exposure or maybe rats rubbing against it.

"MAZURABN TRAPPED HROLF TRAPPED BRUMLEY DEAD MARIK... ...LBERT DEAD ERNST GOD SAVE ME GUNT..." the rest is illegible.

Bryce translates the graffiti for the others.

"Very disturbing," the young sorcerer muses, "'Mazurabn trapped Hrolf trapped Brumley dead...'"

"Hmmm, I assume that 'Hrolf' is the long-dead king with whom we just spoke.  He seems to have been trapped by 'Mazurabn'.  This band seems to have met a rather unfortunate end."

Bryce scratches his sandy hair in puzzlement.

eyes narrow as Bryce translates...whispering "An ill portend indeed." reflecting a moment before continuing"Perhaps the meaning is Mazurabn and Hrolf both trapped others dead? It may be another Hrolf!"
what charge have we taken upon ourselves?!
I struggle to remain calm in the cloistered gloom as a cold feeling seeks hold in my guts.
will I ever get back to the open steppe

Drohem

Norel listened carefully while Bryce translated the chalk writings, and nods in agreement with his comrades assessment of the situation.  He reflexively groomed his beard as he mulled over the situation in his mind.

"It's better to stay rooted in the here and now," Norel whispers to his companions as he nods toward the two doors before them, "let's see what is beyond these doors."

The dwarf moves over to the wooden door on the left and checks to see if it is latched, locked, or had a handle.

OOC: If Norel can open the door and see into the next area, then he will do so.

Sigmund

Alric nods thoughtfully at Amra's words, then stands and glances around in silence and raises the lantern, keeping watch while the others move into position.

The door lacks a handle, but it swings open with a creak. The room before you is longer than the one you're in, but the same thickness as the one you're currently in.

There's the odor of stale, rotten hay and rat droppings hanging in the area. The floor underneath is the same packed earth as in the room with the statue, but your keen dwarven eyes can see sour spots where moisture has sunk small depressions in the floor. Where these are near to the wall, long, thin cracks form spiderwebs in granite blocks as pressure fractures the now unevenly sited stones. Still, it's a testament to the mason that even after centuries, the cracks are too thin to even stick a knife blade through. You can hear the wind whistle through them very faintly in the musty stillness.

The room is not bare, but it has been roughly treated. There are a pile of broken pots in the near corner covered in brown guck, and a few sticks of dried out, ancient straw pushed up against either wall. Someone lit a fire in here, several of them in fact, as smoke marks form black funnels on the outer wall.

There are two doors on the right, inner wall here, and a door on the far wall.

OOC: The room is about 15m long. The pots look like chamber pots. Straw is a common bedding material, even back in the old days.

"Hiya Norel. Well spoken." bracing for the exploration as I nod in agreement. Bow at full draw as the door is opened.
Trying to maintain clear lines of sight as the door is opened...will provide cover as we move into other areas and open doors etc. If it gets to narrow I will go to the scimitar and shield!

Norel enters the room cautiously, looking the dark areas of the room for anything hidden or ready to pounce.  He proceeds into the center of the room and then waits for his comrades to enter the room.  He holds his shield and ball & chain loosely, but ready for action at a moment's notice.

Pseudoephedrine

The room remains still. If there are any deadly traps guarding this temple, they must be elsewhere.

OOC: Everyone in the room with Norel, give me some Perception checks.

Norel looks around the room while waiting for the others to enter the room behind him.  He peers into the shadowy areas of the room, and then scans over the pile of broken pots for anything dangerous lurking therein.

OOC: Norel's Perception check was successful.
