This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Llum

After finishing a small lunch Sighard packs his gear and stands up, glass of blessed water still in hand. "Perhaps we could climb up on the roof for a look inside before we barge in the front door" he says "A little bit of extra information can mean all the difference".

"Why climb when you can fly, noble Sighard?" the young sorcerer asks, smiling.

"Devin, my friend, could you fly to the top of the temple, look through any openings that exist, and tell me what you see?"

"Hiya Bryce! Your brave feathered companion leads the way!" as I laugh with Alric and watch the crow with some respectful affections...not finding anything I am willing to leave behind I shrug, shoulder my pack and bring my bow at the ready for the first part of the exploration.

Devin caws his assent, and comes plummeting down, pulling back his wings to bleed off velocity as he dips into a hole in the roof.

It's perhaps three minutes later when he comes back out. He clambers over clay roof tiles back to you.

"It's dark!" he caws in his bird language to Bryce, who may translate as he pleases for the others.

"Dark, dark, dark. No beasts. No birds. No things from the stone house," he points his beak at the church.

"I saw a stone perch that had water, and I drank some."

Bryce relates Devin's report to the others.

Readying his crossbow, the young sorcerer asks, "Well, shall we proceed into the temple?"

I nod my head at Bryces query and grip my bow tightly, a steely gaze in my eyes as I look towards the entrance...

I'll be travelling for several days (leaving tomorrow morning), so I may not be able to post here again until next week.

Bryce should continue to behave with a mix of caution and curiosity.

Norel ate lightly during their break and was glad that Bryce could do some scouting through his companion Devin.  As the group prepares to enter the temple, Norel takes out his lantern and lights it.  He puts away his flint and steel, and puts his backpack on his back again and adjusts the straps properly.  He readies his shield in his off-hand and carries the lantern in his weapon hand.

"You boyos are going to need the light," Norel says in a matter-of-fact tone as he steps toward the the large gap in the wall near the entrance.

With a sideways glance back at his companions, Norel enters the temple through the gap in the wall.

Taking a deep breath as Norel enters the gloom I bring my bow up with slight draw as I wait my turn to enter...

Sighard follows Norel in through the door, half-full glass of blessed water still in hand.

Inside the room, your light casts gloomy shadows. The statue is man-sized, carved of grey stone, and depicts an ancient warrior holding his sword up as if on guard or in prayer. He stands in the corner of the room atop a small base with some writing along the bottom. On his left and right are wooden doors with iron bands, both closed, going to different rooms.

Tapestries cover the rest of the walls, but rot and smoke have blackened them. There some rotting boards on the ground, perhaps remnants of whatever crude furniture was once in here.

The room is 5x5, and the building, at least from what you can hear, is quiet save for the occasional sound of rats or the wind. The two doors don't have visible locks.

Alric whispers to Norel, "Pass the lantern friend, my power is not far from spent anyway, and you'd be better served having both hands available, and he holds out his hand while staying near Amra.

Norel nods in agreement with Alric and hands him the lantern silently.  The dwarven warrior then carefully takes his ball & chain off his belt, and holds it ready to drop the chain when needed for combat.

He gestures toward the statue's base with his weapon, and asks, "Alric or Bryce, can either of you read the writing?"
