This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Arrows and bolts go flying past the skeleton. It raises its hands threateningly and advances on Norrel. Streamers of mist roll off its back as its dead, hollow eye sockets bore into you.

At the last moment, as it's passing the altar on its way towards you, Amra's arrow catches it in the side. The skeleton grabs the solid block of granite that is the capstone of the altar, and as effortlessly as you might lift a cradle, it picks it up with both hands, raises it above its own head, and flings the capstone at Amra.

Skeleton rolls an 18 for its throw. It's a thrown weapon, so it can be dodged. Otherwise that'll be 11 damage.

Quote from: Akrasia;438090Last round Bryce successfully cast a spell (Protection 2).

This round he'll try to fire his crossbow.  He had it read when he approached the altar, but since he cast a spell, I'm not sure if he could fire this round.

In any case, he misses with a roll of 74.

We're on round 2. You cast the spell in round 1, so firing your crossbow this round is fine.

Taking advantage of the skeleton's preoccupation with attacking Amra, Norel moves into action against the skeleton.  He quickly twirls his chain & ball over his head in several arcs to gain momentum, and then launches his attack on the skeleton.  The ball of his weapon catches the skeleton directly in its skeletal chest cavity with bone crushing force.

=======================

OOC: Norel's round 2 attack roll was 21% and hits for 8 damage!

You smash the ribs and spine, breaking the skeleton in half. The plush monk's robe folds over and the abomination collapses in a heap. The mist comes roiling out of the heap of bone and cloth and forms up into a column in front of you. You can see two black eye-pits forming in the cloud, gazing evilly at you.

We're still in initiative here. But good job on the skelly!

Any chance Bryce would have some knowledge of what kind of creature this is?

Yeah, it's almost certainly a ghost. The other options are a spirit or a demon. Spirits avoid churches most of the time, and demons all have well-established forms you'd recognise. Its power means that the person it once was probably knew magic (and would still be able to cast it, so long as it wasn't divine magic).

Ok, it's round 3. The ghost is currently a man-sized cloud whirling around in front of Norrel. What're you all doing?

Norel takes a step back and takes up a defensive position, and says loudly, "how do we kill mist?  Bryce, Alric, what do we do here?!"

Cool.  (But CRAP!)

Sweat pouring down the young sorcerer's forehead, he exclaims, "My friends, this creature cannot be harmed by mere physical objects!  We must flee!  FLEE!"

After watching Norel destroy the skeleton and the ghost rise from its remains  Sighard reaches into his pack for the glass bottle of blessed water. "Hold my friends! We have the blessed water, surely it will vanquish this foul creature".

It should take me 1 round to grab the water from my pack (since I foolishly put it back in earlier). After that round, if I went to pour it into the spirit would that count as a Close COmbat roll?

Yeap. Or you can try to splash it or throw it as a ranged attack if you'd prefer.

Norel felt the urge to flee well up inside himself, but he forcefully suppressed that feeling once he hears Sighard.  He stands ready, and defensively, while Sighard makes his play against the ghost with the vial of holy water.

"Everyone else, get out!" Norel yells to his companions while he stands in front of Sighard to shield him while he gets the vial out of his pack.
