This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I will take a bead (from partial cover if available nearby) on the doorway/church with bow @ 1/2 draw, a few arrows stuck in ground for easy access as the party forms up to discuss options...murmuring "Ruins peaceful in the daylight" as I move to position.
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Quote from: Sigmund;430982Heh, is there any writing or carving visible on the outside of the church? Any stones on the ground that look out of place?

It's actually very sparsely ornamented, which places it as an older church and matches with its supposed monastic origin. The current style is towards the Gothic. The church itself is still well-intact, with all of its walls standing.

From what you know of churches, if that circular window still held glass it would probably have writing on it.

Looking around for stones out of place and writing, you can see a few graves off behind the left wall amongst the trees. They're about as far back as the back corner of the church, maybe 30m.

The column also appears to have something inscribed on it, though you'd have to go over and take a closer look. It's about 50m to your left and is that lonely grey square on the map.

Alric will look to the others and say quietly, "I recommend we examine the column over there before proceeding into the ruins. Does anyone know anything about what befell the monks of this monastery?"

"Indeed! All the monks slain or driven off many years back. We have been told twas demon possession from locals and fever maddened monk from town priest. Who knows the truth of it?" as I shrug shoulders "Oh, the good father gave us some blessed waters incase." then move off to nearby cover (if available) with bow @ ready.

Norel is examining the entrance.  Is it barred from the inside or outside?  Does it look like he can open it, or force it open with a good shove?

Sigmund

Alric walks warily towards the column in order to get a better look at it.

The door is not visibly barred. After pushing on it lightly, you can tell it seems stuck. You can see that the door panels have warped and bent slightly. Forcing it will be a Str x 3 check, though if others help you, or can find a battering ram, it'll be easier.

Sigmund, I've attached an image of the pillar. The words on it are written in Thernish, which is one of the root languages of Moragnian (the language you speak). So give me a Language (Moragnian) test at -25% if you don't have Language (Thernish) to translate.

Amra, you can take cover in the shelter of the stairs, so that your lower half is protected. Otherwise, it's fairly bare up here on the asphalt platform.

Die roll for Alric
Campaign: In Search of Folly

1d100 → [75] = (75)

Language test with target 53 (78-25)

My first roll I screwed up and subtracted the 25 from the roll, so I then realised how that was wrong and just included the penalty in the note with the target number. Seems we're not meant to know anything about this place at all.

Someone helping will use the STRx5 of the strongest person involved.

Llum

Sighard moves up to help Norel force open the door, leaving his pack within easy reach.

I have a Strength of 14 and Norel of 11. So STRx5 of the strongest (Sighard) would be 70. I'll make a roll.

Roll = 32, Target is 70. A success I hope.
