This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Seeing the mountain in the distance, Norel suggests to his companions, "let's make for the base of the western side of the mountain, and make camp just above the tree line.  This will provide us with some cover, and we still will have a good line of sight back onto the heath.  What do you think?"

Cranewings

Engeram replies,"good plan. Let's keep going for a while."

Bryce says little during the march, preferring to keep his own counsel.  He shrugs indifferently at the dwarf's suggestion, apparently still perplexed and irritated by the other's earlier behaviour.

Wary of potential danger, the sorcerer communicates to Devin: "Let me know if you spot any patrols or other possible threads, my friend."

"Aye, let us continue." Sighard mentions as he continues to walk in huge strides, " I can scout the heavy forest without being slowed by the trees, that should allow us to find the path very quickly" .

I have a spell that lets me walk through rough terrain/heavy forest as if it was open. Should help me track down the path quick-like.

Amra nods at the others suggestion "To the woods then."

You make good time and reach the forest at the base of the mountain's eastern side in just over an hour. The land rolls up gently for several hundred yards until ahead it forms into short cliffs and ridges that become true mountain. There's a mist or fog rolling through the trees, not so badly that you can't see, but enough to cast a gloomy pall over the green leaves. It's also cold, colder even than the approach was.

Bryce, Devin doesn't see anyone coming by the time you hit the treeline. Either the Baron is incurious, or his men went in completely the wrong direction, or he is planning some wicked stratagem, or the cunning lord has a charm which Devin can't see through. It's unclear which, but perhaps unwise to underestimate him.

The forest seems to have grown to confound passers-by. There are clear patches and thickets, but the clear patches all curl away from the mountain itself, while the thickets lay in your path. Still, swords and spells ought to be able to clear a path.

Images are of the spooky forest. Sighard, your spell will definitely help. Give me a casting roll for it.

If I understand everyone correctly, the plan is to press on and find the path, correct? There'll be some climbing involved, and if you take too long, that may mean in the dark.

I'll take Perception tests from everyone. Sighard's spell means you don't take penalties to the roll if he succeeds. Otherwise, it's at a -25% due to brambles, thickets, fog, lighting, etc. It's like everything that could interfere with you is trying to.

"Whether we find the path or not," Norel says to his companions, "let's set up camp before the day's light is completely gone."

====================================

OOC: Norel's Perception (48%) skill check is 61%, which fails.  As I understand the situation, we only have about 30 minutes of daylight left, correct?

Sighard focuses briging forth his natural magic. Keeping an eye out for the path he says "We should have no trouble finding the path before dark, and hopefully complete our journey on the morrow."

Sighard, this may remind you of other times you've tracked prey through the woods. The boughs unfurl to open a pathway through, and you lead the party around to the south-eastern slope.

Everyone passes the path without realising it. But after a few minutes, as the rock starts to curl around, you, Sighard, double back and find the path, hidden behind a clump of frost-covered sumac. Through the bushes, and the path opens up.

The last rays of dusk are shining through the trees, and the path has just wide enough a space to camp on it, if you so please.

Images are of Sighard's spell through the woods and the path you find. Yes, it is in surprisingly good repair and clear of obstructions.

"Great eyes, Sighard!" Norel congratulates him on finding the path in the fading daylight.

"We should camp for the night here," Norel addresses everyone, "now that Sighard has found the path.  We should also set up watches in case we're being hunted."

Akrasia

Looking thoughtful, Bryce says, "Yes, watches definitely would be a good idea, as I worry that this path is used frequently.  I will instruct Devin to keep a keen eye about as well."

Does anyone want to make any special preparations when you camp? Who'll stand watch?
