This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Okay, let's knock the dust off this place.

Et voila - a history of the Imperium (overview):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperium_(Traveller)

The time period the game is typically played in is the Third Imperium, any time after about 1100 (I think the current "canon" has it around 1120 or so).

I'm sure the other's can provide more links if you like.

Try this, too - more comprehensive:

Quote from: WerekoalaDo you mind the adventure not being set in the Spinward Marches?
Do you mind if its set on a planet and will likely not involve space at all (at least until the actual "adventure" is wrapped up)?
Do any of you read SJ Games' JTAS website?
Like Jim: no, no, and no.

So this adventure would be set in or around the Imperium?  Addressing a near-inconsequential background question, what notable alien culture or subculture is within an influential vicinity?  Any Aslan?

Quote from: WerekoalaSince its looking more like we've got as many as we're going to get, and Traveller seems to be the winner, go ahead and make a character using CT rules (but not High Guard or Mercenary, not this time out - sorry). Someone be kind enough to provide a link to their favorite on-line generator for James, please.

A couple of questions:

(I intend to run an adventure I wrote many moons ago for T20 to get the ball rolling, and if it is successful and you want to continue I have others I can use as well, assuming you haven't read them already.)

so if HG & mercenary are out, the scouts book is too?  :)  that's cool.
how about supplement 4, CotI?
unfortunately i don't know of any generators--maybe the doc or ian know of some?

no Marches?  okay, no prob.
primarily ground?  sure, i'll pick skills appropriately.
SJ's JTAS?  haven't read it in years, since shortly after gurps trav came out.  been meaning to re-subscribe but haven't.

going to visit my folks this weekend.  how fun it will be to bring along the LBB's & roll up characters! :D

good point--if i get linguistics skill, should i take the appropriate aslan or vargr tongue?

i have the old hivers module--how about making one of those?  :eyecrazy: okay, i'm kidding about playing a hiver. ;)  i'll stick to imperial human.

The adventure is set on Kukelu, in the Ley sector, near the Thousand Worlds - you can search for it here:

http://www.travellermap.com/

DAMN fine map program.

While the adventure will be land-based, at least at first, that does NOT mean you should be just ground-pounder types. The scenario assumes you have a ship, or are crew on a ship, that has a broken part. Cliche, yes, so sue me. So unless you have a burning desire to be a mudder, its not required. If and when this thing wraps up successfully, being able to at least survive on a ship would be helpful if you folks want to continue.

I'm wanting to avoid the added complexity/hyper-competency of the advanced Character books, so stick with the "basic" books please. CotI counts as basic. Just not looking for a bunch of 50 year old admirals with 30 skills. Not yet, at least. ;)

Here's the online program with all the basic careers, and the CotI careers as well. Take it for a spin, see what ya think.

Jim, I'm sure you'll have questions - right off the bat, the stats, in order, are Strength, Dex, Endurance, Intelligence, Education, and Social Standing (anything A+ is considered a minor Noble, which won't really come into play right now, but might in the future, if any). The stats are in Hexidecimal, so 10= A, 11=B, etc. If you have specific questions about careers or anything else, post 'em and we'll fill in the details.

oh man, i LOVE that map program!  takes forever to run at home, connection-wise.

would taking "linguistics-k'kree" be acceptable, if the opportunity arises?  or should i leave the selection blank?  just thinking ahead, that's all

thanks for the gen program link--i'll play around with it a bit

Here's an interesting human minor race that lives in the vicinity: The Sydites.  They apparently reside in the nearby Khuur League.

Don't worry, I'm going straight Imperial human. :)

gotta find that JTAS # 12 for the stats, again

opposite side of the imperium from where we'll be, tho

Werekoala

I could see you knowing K'kree out here, if only for trade puprposes. If you could  find any who'd be crazy enough to trade with you. :) Maybe also for Naval officers, 'cause ya never know.

that generator on signal GK is pretty neat.  i should've printed out the results.

first try:  diplomat.  5 terms, good skills
second try:  scientist.  2 terms, okay skills.
third try:  scout.  didn't note terms or skills, but saw *deceased*
fourth, same as third
fifth try, a scout that survived :D

those are the careers i'll most likely be shooting for, btw

Aside from the mis-spelling of "Liaison", a pretty good character all around.  This is actually a character the program rolled up for one of Bill Coffin's Traveller games over on RPG.net.  Doc, I think you were in that game.

Anyway, this is Erem Mantes, born and raised on a backwater planet in the Ley Sector and tired of the yokel reputation such a birthright entails.  A chance opportunity to enroll in the Imperial Diplomatic Service to receive his college education and training in the diplomatic corps was his ticket to greatness.

Hailed as a prize student in his class, Erem was prepped for covert work in the Khuur League, located trailing of the Imperium.  It was a dream come true for young Erem, and he found himself perfectly situated to take advantage of the assignment.  Regrettably, Erem rather lost himself in his assignment, and his pursuit of sensitive corporate and government secrets was suborned to his pursuit of sensitive Sydite flesh.  The decidedly un-diplomatic results of a duel against one jilted lover's vengeful older brother resulted in his summary discharge from the IDS and shipment back home to the backwaters of the Ley Sector where he's trying his best to pull himself up by his boot straps.
