This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hello guys? Please declare an action for the GM. I am anxious to see what comes next!

Arkansan

Sorry for the delay again gents, I have been in the middle of a family crisis. My younger brother has been in ICU with a skull fracture, bleeding on the brain, and a broken leg. Needless to say that things have been crazy. He is out of ICU now so things are settling down. I will update the game tonight when I get home and gods willing we can resume a normal schedule.

Of course that assumes everyone is still interested, if not I understand, the schedule of this game has been a hot mess for a long while now.

Drohem

No sweat, bro.  I am still down! :)

Arkansan

Glad to hear it!

To be honest I am losing creative steam with the dungeon though, so many pauses in between work sessions have made my notes scattered and disjointed.

So my question to everyone is this would you prefer to press on with this game, or would you be ok with me starting a new one? A fresh start so to speak?

I totally understand if everone wants to carry forward with this game, we cartainly have invested some time in it. I just feel like I have learned a few things about running a play by post game, about pacing at least, that could lead to a smoother game with a fresh start.

Either way I am ok with, I just wanted to put it out there. :)

Can you give some idea of what the potential new adventure would be about? That would help me decide.

Arkansan

Well I had a few possibilities in mind. All of which I envision running as a sandbox.

1. Post apocalyptic fantasy with some science fantasy thrown in. Think Barsoom, Almuric and the like with magic and what not. Think radium rifles, flashing blades, horrors grown in vats and ancient and poorly understood technologies that have begun to take on a religious significance. All the while the world slowly dies. Weird contrasts between the medieval and the futuristic.

2. A more traditional fantasy, set in a failing kingdom during what will eventually be known as the end of Mans dominance. Lots of petty nobles ruled by a weak kneed king, all the while the world becomes weirder, fey so to speak and humanoids of all shapes and sizes begin to run amok.

Anyway either of these settings I would run as a sandbox. I have a few ideas for starting hooks that could apply to either. The PC's could have been hired to map out a wild border land. Or they could be survivors of an ill fated caravan headed to find a fabled city of riches. They could also simple mercenaries hired to deal with the myriad problems of an incompetent noble. I have many more ideas for starting hooks and am open to suggestions, of course being a sandbox there would be no prime directive so to speak and anything that looked worth doing could be done.

Option #1 seems pretty cool! Drohem, what do you think?

Chugosh

I'm usually down for a post toasty.
The fall of mankind seems kind of cool apocalyptic as well.

Yeah that is kind of the theme with both possible settings, the fall of man imposed order and a return to a sort of primordial chaos, though approached in different ways. Reading through the original D&D books whilst waiting in an ICU has sort of given me some visages of weird and chaotic takes on the implied setting which I am itching to get put to paper. Either way I think much fun could be had, however the vote turns out I will be happy to be gaming again.

Hi Arkansan, thanks for running the previous, for the small amount of the mega-dungeon we did explore I enjoyed it.

I think I'll sit out the next one though, as I'm not sure how much time I'll have free in the forseeable future - perhaps I could jump in at a later date if I find I'm able?

I'm glad that you enjoyed, I'm just sorry the schedule was such a train wreck. Of course feel free to jump in any time you want! I would be glad to have you back. I envisaged this as being an open game anyway, and with a sandbox set up it is very easy for people to drop in and out.

So as a group are we leaning toward option 1 or 2? I am fine with either, but to be honest I think one sounds a bit more interesting personally. I have some outline work done for both so as soon as we decide I can begin fleshing out the initial area, which should be able to finish over the weekend as I will have lots of downtime. So basically if we get a decision today we can start playing again Monday or possibly even late Sunday.

Drohem

Sure, let's go with option #1 then. :)

Arkansan

Sounds like everyone would be ok with option 1. I will start expanding my outlines and mapping tonight. I have lots of free time this weekend so I should easily be able to get a starting area up and running.

How does everyone feel about house rules? I was thinking of using Akrasia's sword and sorcery rules for M-U's and maybe a couple of other minor things. I am thinking of using swords and wizardry white box for this game, or possibly S&W core. That ok with everyone? I am pretty flexible here so its whatever but I was thinking of making a few changes to get a specific flavor.

Drohem

yeah, I am cool with either rules set.
