This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

OOC: We are prodding the Hobgoblin along and will be following him to the Goblin warren with the understanding that we will need to stop and take stock of our situation once we are near the entrance, but still concealed. If you can also describe the route for the sake of the party map-maker that would be great!

Quobbles prods his spear into the small of the creatures back (the spear is angled upwards, naturally)

"You'd better behave sunshine."

Also, Quobbles will carefully pause and listen before we set off-it's taken awhile to bind and interrogate the hobgoblin and he worries we may have attracted undue attention.

Ari is ready to move as soon as Quobbles gives the "all-clear".

Arkansan

You move out of the room as the hobgoblin grumbles quietly, lamenting his fate. You continue further down the hall way that the last room branched off of. You creep forward about thirty feet before the torchlight reveals that the corridor either branches to the right or continues forward. You can hear some sort of noise to your right but it is quite faint, there is a wiff of smoke in the air and light can be seen emanating from the corridor to the right.

Quobbles whispers to the hobgoblin:

"What's that smoking off to the right?  And don't answer 'fire'..."

He motions with his head for Ari and Brogar to be on the ready, and glances anxiously at Father Donovan.

Ari readies his bow and several arrows, and nods to Brogar that he will follow Brogar's lead...he looks back at Father Donovan and hands him the hobgoblin mace he had picked up earlier, "Father, please throw this at the start of any upcoming encounter. We need as many things flying at once as we can manage."

OOC: To Arkansan, the above assumes you are running Donovan.

Arkansan

The father nods solemnly and takes the mace.

Chugosh

Brogar takes stock of their tactical situation and is fairly pleased at their chances and the younger man's evident tallent at leadership.
"Whatever Pisquady here knows or says, we would be foolish not to check things out," says the veteran.
(Pisquady was a well known Hobgoblin chieftain in the southern borderlands around the reign of His Imperial Majesty Gerald the Invincible in the previous century, and was widely told of in stories of Gerald's war against the goblin hoards of that time, culminating in the Battle of Harper's Ridge wherein the two captains met face to face and Pisquady was felled in the ninth hour of the battle with his head going one way and his body another under Gerald's mighty hammer Hrathgulder.  Many a man will refer to any hobgoblin as "Pisquady" since.  No idea how the Hobs take this.)

After hearing what the hobgoblin has to say about it, unless it si a very bad idea indeed, Brogar leads the group towards the smoke. Is it a woody campfire smoke or something else?

Ari falls in alongside Brogar, bow at the ready...

Arkansan

It's hard to say what kind of smoke it is, it is thick and black. It wafts down the hallway in thick sheets.

Chugosh

Brogar pauses and takes a knee, carefully and quietly placing his weapon on the floor and leaning his shield on the wall, he pulls out a rag and ties it around his face to filter the smoke.  He looks around meaningfully at the rest of the party.

"If you begin to feel dizzy or nauseous, it is already too late for you.  Stay as low as you can.  Even you, Master Quabbles.  We advance slow and careful.  Hide that torch for a moment, Father.  Let us see if there is fire ahead to go with all this sooty smoke."

pbj44

Ari follows Brogar's lead and ties a dampened rag over his nose and mouth. He begins crawling after Brogar.

Arkansan

You move further down the corridor, the smoke increases in thickness with every step. After twenty feet or so you begin to see the angry orange glow or open flames, the sounds of some sort of commotion can be heard over the crackling of burning wood.

Chugosh

Brogar tries to determine what the ruckus is-- a battle or something like a ritual?  He continues going forward, weapon and shield at the ready, and the rag around his face, trying to duck below most of the smoke.

He whispers to Ari. "if this is a fight between the two factions of our enemies, this could be an unlooked for opportunity!"

Ari whispers, "Your reasoning is sound. Let us get closer, wait, and then finish the victor!"
