This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[IC] Things To Do In Cadsandria When You're Dead

Quote from: The Butcher;716573I love kitbashing!

Half-orc monster hunter is a great concept! I've played a similar character, a half-orc ranger in a D&D 4e game, and I'm obviously fond of the idea. Do you think we could work some sort of bushcraft or wilderness survival ability into it?

Or we could do a bounty hunter. Maybe we could substitute the assassination table for a chance to paralyze or incapacitate? And throw in some sort of tracking or information gathering ability.

In any case, if it's too much trouble, we can just default to fighter/thief, or plain old fighter.

We can swap out assassination for incapacitate if you like - with the same restrictions to its use as assassination.

Do you want to swap out one of Disguise or Poison Use for the Ranger's Tracking ability?

Quote from: One Horse Town;717026No you haven't!

Drohem, fine with me.

On hirelings, depends what you're doing whether they will put themselves in danger or not. Chances are they are the look after the horses, help with moving treasure kind of guys.

Alchemists sometimes use something with a high alcohol content, but getting a pint of it is expensive. 4 GPs per pint. Let's just call it fire water.

Lets call a pint of honey 3 sp.

Makes sense. I'll take on a few zero-level hirelings as they're cheap.

We need The Butcher to decide on his character and for Opaopajr to flesh out his. Maybe one of you guys could help him out?

Something to be getting on with, if you fancy it, is agreeing on what happened in Pratts Landing that led to you hiding out about 700 miles away. The only input from me is that it's got something to do with the church of Poseidon - which is currently suffering a 3 way schism.

Drohem

Oh, I did that in Miron's background for him individually.  However, I take it that would like it better if we fled Pratts Landing as an established group rather than individually coming to Cadsandria?

Drohem

If we're already an established group, then perhaps we expand upon this kernel...

As part of the increasing tensions between the three factions of the Church of Poseidon, the church actively worked to stamp out any other religions in Pratts Landing and control the town completely.  In pursuit of this religious expulsion, priests of all other gods were branded heretics and being persecuted for their beliefs.

Caught up in this sudden power struggle and religious witch hunt as priests of the King in Splendor, both Yared the Lesser and his acolyte, Iowain, became officially marked for death as outlaws. Also, as known and established associates of the religious heretics, both Kazmak the half-orc and Miron Earbeard the half-elf became wanted men as well.

It was through luck and friendly contacts that the group was able to effect its escape from Pratts Landing literally minutes before being set upon by Poseidonite Templars and possibly captured.

Out with poison use, in with tracking! They're no good to me dead. :D

I'll write up the character sweet when I get home.

It would just mean we could dispense with the introduction phase before we start.

===  Background  ===

Fell deathly ill from pleurisy progressing into pneumonia as a child. The fever nearly killed him, but also ended up saving his life. The warmth and radiance of the sun figured heavily on Iowain's fevered delusions, and thus a sense of calling towards the church, celebrating the King of Splendor, conqueror of cold and winter.

Stunted from the traumatic illness, and chased by repeated pleuritic bouts, his childhood seemed to end early. Living cautiously with a sense of joyous martyrdom Iowain joined the King of Splendor seminary just before massive persecution. It all makes sense to him, like the fall into winter before the triumph of the sun. He does not expect to see the glorious return bodily, but among the church triumphant. Meanwhile he seeks to shelter and comfort those exposed from the coming cold for as long as his borrowed time grants.

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

It's up to OHT as I initially offered to be a 1st level hireling. This leaves another slot for someone else to join, and doesn't circumvent OSRIC hireling rules, I think (hirelings and henchmen not being higher level).

But thanks for the rest, Drohem!

If you're happy with being a 1st level peon, i' not going to stop you. Might be challenging though!

What's so hard about sitting in on a six part lecture? ;)

Anyway, given the power differential in backgrounds now, it makes more sense to keep things this way. Besides, Iowain has little reason to go dungeon crawling per se; he can putter around as a domestic and get paid just as well anywhere. But as a camp hand, I'm sure there'll be plenty of adventure at hand to keep the bivouac safe while the party has gone crawlin'.

What reference do you use for item prices?
