This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Oh! Then we would have communicated beforehand where we should go, right? Oops! My bad.

Actually, then I would be seen with 3 different men in the space of two nights. That would definitely cement my cheap impression, and possibly raise suspicion with the law. That and the Golden Orb is rather empty, so you'd have to be waiting outside or the fringes to be unseen.

Nah, that'd likely be dangerous. It would attract too much attention. You can look cool, especially at the club, but please look present and accompanying me. Owe you one.]

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Roger, let's roll.

Mr. Kent

Denny:
"Times changing, eh?" Magnus replies. "Heh. I wish it was just the march of time. If you ask me--wait a minute, you did ask me! I'd say things started getting shadier in our sunny dome the minute a certain corporation arrived. Sure, they create jobs, but there's a certain brand of crime that goes where the money is, you know. And anywhere Newsun-Matsuri pops up, it's going to be like that, I guarantee."

Off to the club!
Baldwin and Montour each take one of Jolene's arms and the trio head to UnLocal, the hottest club for the visiting offworlders and the trendiest Qeteshi natives. They are followed stealthily by Denny and Blinov. (Rookie and Shipyard, please make Stealth rolls…)

UnLocal is buzzing tonight. As advertised, DJ S'MOOV is working her musical magic from the spherical DJ booth, working the crowd into a frenzy. There is one area of the dance floor not crowded--it seems to be a bunch of kids cheering on a dance-off. In the opposite corner there's a mass of people chanting, "Drink! Drink! Drink!"

The boys' eyes widen. "Oh…I…" is all Baldwin can utter. Montour nervously doesn't say a thing.

Decoupling from their arms, I step forward, turn and face them both, arms akimbo and a warm smile. "First lesson: The challenge, when new to pleasurable things, is to not let it all out all at once." She tests out her country refinement, enjoying the advice's double entendre.

Back to down home easy warmth, "But who am I to stop you from letting loose?" I return to my place between them and slip my arms back into theirs. "This place is a bit more city, so we're in the rough and heather now." Pointing with my head to the bar, "I'm feeling a touch parched myself. A lemony Gimlet'll help with that. Let's practice what y'all already learned at the Golden Orb, so you can ease in comfortable like."

(Lets the boys order for me, and will help if they are having some trouble, otherwise leaning against the bar waiting, looking cool, and scanning the crowd. Checking to spot Blinov & Denny.)

Once I have my drink I'll sidle them to a niche where we can chat above the din. "You done good! You'll be like world travelers in no time. Savor your drink, 'cuz you're testin' the waters of the crowd and decidin' what yer gut wants to do. Look around, but don't linger, and a light smile won't kill ya. Ain't that right, Montour? Side of yer eyes, like so, if you want another good look at somethin', or someone..."

Sets the drink aside and affectionately hooks my arm on Baldwin, addressing him first then changing my look to Montour to include him, "Next step is learnin' to flirt on your own with all these pretty ladies present. We can't be together forever, you bein' world travelin' guardsmen and all. So we gonna make what time we have count.

"I'm gonna get you feelin' the rhythm here, starting with a bob o' yer head and a tap o' yer feet, and then I'll test out yer dancin'. If you can talk nice, stay interestin', and can move a little to the beat, we'll get that leadin' man outta you that any woman would want."

Leans in conspiratorially for them all to huddle and hear, "If you're missin' the feel o' home, though, there's the Dance Hall where we can take things slower like. Learnin' a good time, like a good thanksgiving feast, should not be rushed now. Just say the word and we shift gears onto somethin' more familiar."

Jolene:
"Guardsmen? Heh," Montour mutters. He says something else that is hard to hear over the OONTZ-OONTZ-OONTZ OF DJ S'MOOV's funky alien beat. However, he does smile slightly when you make the suggestion.

Baldwin nods vigorously. "Yeah...yeah! Okay," he says, focusing hard on the music. He tries to "bounce", as you said. "C'mon," he says to Montour, and they leave your side to get lemony gimlets at the bar.

While they are nearby but still within shouting distance, you scan the crowd for Denny and Blinov...

Jolene:
There's no sign of Denny. Hopefully he was able to catch up after stopping to chat with Magnus at the bar. You scan the busiest part of the crowd and spy Blinov. He blends in pretty well, actually, but there's not telling if the boys saw him, or if they'd even remember him from yesterday.

Montour and Baldwin return with drinks in hand, and Baldwin hands one to Jolene. It looks pretty much like what you ordered, though you give it a sniff and do suspect the bartender skimped on the gin. Probably thought these obvious rookie clubbers wouldn't notice, and he'd be correct on that.

Montour sips his drink and looks over in Blinov's direction. "Hey...isn't that your friend over there?" he asks. "What happened to the other one...the big, military type?" he asks curiously. Baldwin gives Montour an embarrassed look, but Montour shrugs.

"Thanks for taking us out, miss," Baldwin tells Jolene. "Work's been so crazy lately. It's nice to spend some time above ground--err, I mean around town. Not that we don't love the work, but...yeah, like I said. It's just nice."

Blinov:
You're standing out in the crowd. While it doesn't help your stealth any, it certainly doesn't hurt your chances to score. A long smooth arm bursts from the crowd and pulls you to the center of the dance-off circle. A tally wiry girl with short spiky hair grins widely at you. She's obviously more than a little intoxicated. "DANCE!" she says playfully, but it comes out like a hoarse scream. She hands her drink to her friends and points to the floor. She does a few fancy little kicky moves, the looks at you expectantly. Will you partake in the dance challenge?

Denny:
UnLocal is booming, DJ S'MOOV's set is magical. You catch a glimpse inside the DJ's spherical pod, which is pulsing with colored strobe lights. You'd think it would be hard to focus in such a hyperactive environment, but S'MOOV herself looks quite focused on her music. She pops out of her pod and hands the music selection over to a sidekick, then saunters right past you to get a drink. Her outfit looks like a military flight jumpsuit with tiny sequins all over it.

"Oh, him? He's like a brother to me. I asked him this favor, as he's much better at these scenes than I am, as I'm a little country if y'noticed." Sips the watery gimlet, makes a face of minor disapproval, "This drink reminds me of a lesson..." Sets it down and keeps a hand delicately upon it.

"But first: yeah, he's keepin' an eye 'cuz a lone woman never really knows with two guys. I'm sure you two are complete gentlemen," Jolene pets Baldwin's arm affectionately, "yet the danger is still there. And in the big, wide galaxy personal precaution is a great thing to remember."

"As for my other friend, don't you tell him, but we have almost a father-daughter relationship. I guess those who saw the 'service' never really lose that protective sense. Which reminds me..." grabs glass to take another watery sip, "He likes his drinks strong, like you may remember last time. Wouldn't really find this place to his liking as he watched." Which may be true for all Jolene knows qt the moment.

"These places can skimp on the sauce, if you're not in the know. You done good however, just getting there and back without incident. You'll learn soon enough, and making friends with the bartender is never a bad idea. Then you can get stronger drinks, among other advice..."

"I'm having fun too, boys! I'm gonna let you absorb the scene a bit and watch you catch the groove. When either of you is ready we'll try out your moves on the floor." Flashes a smile to both, "And soon you'll be ready to fly strong and free from the nest of Asherah! Well, until y'all want to settle back on down from all this excitement to Asherah's warm, family bosom." Winks a conspiratorial smile to both, as though she made a friendly joke.

Blinov glances over to Jo to make sure she'll be ok for a few minutes, then responds to the dance challenge with a sequence of smooth yet robotic moves in the vein of the Korean club scene from 21st century earth.

Blinov:
The girl is astonished by your moves. "They don't dance like that in Q-Town!" she squeals drunkenly. "Like, where are you even from?" She totters on her heels as she stumbles towards you. "Hey hey hey--you should challenge Dexter!" Her similarly drunken friends cheer in agreement. ""He's like...a dance master! I'd even bet money on you!"

Jolene:
As the boys down their drinks (and their refills, and Baldwin wants to go back for yet another refill) they begin to relax even more. Montour seems surprised at his own good time. "This…this is all right. I hate to think about going to work tomorrow," he hisses.

(Shall we fast-forward through this wild evening? Any specific goals for the night?)

((ooc:  None for me, just here to back up the partier's...we might try to get more information on NME's project if they're feeling a little loose tongued now that they've had some booze ))

AS the DJ goes up to the bar, Denny says to the bar tender - "that one's on me!"

As he approaches he says

"Nice beats Smoov, You coming to the Deadhog's tommorow night? I love their new single "Binary Pork". It set's me in a certain mood...."

Blinov looks back at Jo to make sure she's still good and accepts the dance challenge casually, making it clear that he will be unfazed (or at least act that way) whether he wins or loses. Note that he does not drink or take any mind-altering substances while "on the job", so he won't let himself get too distracted from his watch.
