This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Foromo - You and Jolly break down the second door in a wave of fury! By the time that you are done the rest of the party has caught up with you again and Peldic's torch reveals:

Directly ahead and down the corridor is a vast open pit with a foul, smoking stench boiling out from it. To the left of the pit is a very narrow ledge, perhaps 6 inches wide. The floor from your doorway to the pit is covered in a strange smelling clear gel-like substance. The ledge also appears to be smeared with this same gel.

Just before the pit area and to the left is the site of an old collapsed tunnel.

Norda sighs and grits her teeth, determined to stay awake and help.

Baldue moans, "What the hell is that stuff - snot??!!"

What do you do?

"STOP!" Jolly yells to his companions, "everyone back into the doorway."

As he walks over to Peldic he sheathes his sword and says, "let me see the torch, Peldic."

Once everyone is back beyond the doorway, Jolly moves up the hallway to where the edge of the gel-like substance is located.  He then reaches out and puts the burning torch near the substance on the floor.

Let's see if this stuff burns and my hunch that this is a trap is right! he thinks to himself quickly before doubt overtakes him.

As the torch comes near the gel, suddenly the corridor ahead of the party bursts into flame! The inferno rages for about 10 minutes before it gradually dies.

What do you do?

Foromo, while still agitated, at least comes down from his anger enough to stop and think...he peers down the tunnel, entering enough to kick off his infra-vision...

OOC- To use your infravision Peldic would have to put out the torch and once your eyes adjusted to the darkness your infravision would kick in. Just let me know what you guys want to do.

An arching stream of "snot" shoots out of the pit and hits the wall near your doorway. A grunting sound comes from the pit.

A garbled voice soon emanates from the pit, "RELEASE ME AND I WILL AID YOU IN RECOVERING THE WHITE WITCH!"

Torch Count: 26

Drohem

As Jolly hands the torch back to Peldic he says, "stay here at the doorway with the torch."

He then walks over to the edge of the pick, avoiding the fresh spot of goo, and peers down into the pit to see what spoke to them.

pbj44

Standing waist deep in "goo" is a towering "man" or perhaps one who was once a man. He wears a cowled black rope that periodically seems to shift from tattered to fresh in condition. As he looks up at you, you see that his features are like those of a melted white candle.

"You are wise to stop and aid me, for without my assistance she is lost to you. Even now she is being taken to "them"

He stares at you Jolly.

"No, you won't do at all. Someone else must free me, but never you. Bring forth the others for the choosing."

Drohem

"Now, don't put your cart before your horse," Jolly says to the creature, "an accord between we two must be struck before any 'choosing' will take place.  Clearly, you are in this pit for a reason.  Who where you and what are you now?  Are we dealing with vampires or not?  Can you be trusted to aid us in rescuing our friend if I set you free?"

The creature eyes you thoughtfully, “Hmm…the only Vampire I know of is the flying one that haunts the broken staircase over the great chasm.”

“As for myself, once long ago I was a man like any other, but made some “poor” choices.” For those choices my masters imprisoned me here with a quite simple containment. There is a shackle about my ankle -  below this liquid. The beauty of their trap is this: Its lock may only be opened by a “man” with the same “virtues” that I have. The agony of it all? That is the exact type of man that would and has refused me – countless times over so many years.”

He leans forward.

“Little one, our enemies are one and the same. I will never escape this pit without your aid.”

“This I know.”

“I also know that one of a similar “temperament” to myself is within your ranks.”

His eyes narrow, “But do not seek to deceive or abandon me, for I have the certain means to thoroughly  baffle your pursuit of the White Witch.”

Goo pours from his mouth.

Nodding meaningfully, he wipes his mouth, then turns his head to listen, “They will soon begin with her.”

“What say you? We can help each other. I pledge to guide you to your White Witch, though we would now have to hurry to aid her.”

Foromo approaches the pit and peers in...

(OOC - was there a slime trail going into the tunnel??)

OOC - Nope, no slime trail.

The creature swings its baleful gaze onto Foromo.

He sighs, "No, you are not for the choosing."

"Bring to me the one who has lurking within them those low qualities that true men abhor. Let us conclude this bargain."
