This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Sal reviews the general design of the station in his mind as he considers what to do next.

ooc: what's the overall shape of the station? cylindrical? circular with a central hub? does it have an obvious fore-and-aft? if so, which door leads forward, the left or the right?

It might do you good to review this post. ;)

To the more specific questions, based on your position on the station now, relative to your fly-around, to the left should lead to towards one of the landing bays, while the right leads to the one of the 4 sides of the square without such bays.

"Smokey," Sal say thoughtfully, "is there a way to lock that door behind us? That way seems to lead toward the shuttle bays, and I'm guessin' what we need is gonna be the other way." He looks around the room, searching for a layout diagram of the station or something indicating what lies in what direction.

"Aye, Skipper," Smokey growls out in Tradespeak as he looks at the structure of the door and its frame to see if he can jam his prybar anywhere to wedge the door shut.

As you walk over to more closely inspect the door leading to the landing bay, you discover that someone may have beaten you to the punch. The access control has been smashed, loose wires still occasionally sparking slightly, in a crude attempt to prevent access through this door of the ship. If anything, you'd likely need to use said pry bar to get the door open.

The other door is closed, some more of that base-6 writing flashing across a display above it, but the "green means go" light on the access panel seems to indicate it should be good to go.

Kur'Uk turns to his crew mates and barks out as he points with his prybar to the door's broken access panel, "we may not be alone here.  Take a look at this; it's already been sealed by something else."

Chugosh

"Yeah, and they must have gone out that way, or through the airlock."  Tig loks at the smashed panel.  "They must have been kind of desperate to keep that door closed."

Faraday King, ABD, shivers. "I say we respect their desperation and leave it alone!" He then turns to examine the base-6 inscription on the other control panel.

Smokey peers through the small porthole in the jammed door momentarily before pulling away and saying, "Skipper, it's a landing bay.  There are several shuttles inside.  Didn't see any movement."

Sal mumbles acknowledgement as he looks over console, checking for obvious signs of tampering like loose bolts, stray wires, or anything that doesn't look like it's original to the device.

Nothing appears out of the ordinary, there are at least no foreign objects attached to the device.

As for the sign about the right door, it takes a bit of interpretation but you're pretty sure it says something to the effect of "Employees Only."

"Doc, check that hatch," Sal says, motioning to the door opposite the one leading to the shuttle bays. "Looks like it's for crew, so see if'n there's an alarm or somethin' were likely to set off if we open it. This thing," he continues, motioning to the console, "is pro'l'ly security check in, so I'm gonna see if'n it's still active."

The engineer activates the console.

ooc: "What's this Button Do?" Int roll 4

The console burbles and bloops and even speaks at one point in an odd language of what sounds like gurgling flatulence more than any kind of human speech, and does indeed appear to be a customs and security check-in station, intended to detail visitor nomenclature, clutch of primogenitor, pond of origin, radial symmetry, and sexual status, and cargo contents, along with a whole lot of other mundane bureaucratic details.

As you're poking about you do manage to find the screen for security clearance, and as you attempt to make sense of the resulting screen, the warbling gurgle of the voice feedback slowly modulates into something more like a squawk, as the sound of a S'lettexik voice intrudes along with a pop-up window on the display.

"Come in, Surveyors. We've been expecting you."

The door to the "employees only" zone promptly hisses open.
