This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Evil in the Shadows (Cold City/Microlite20 Modern)

Hello folks I'm looking to start a Cold City/Microlite20 (Modern) game right here. I love the Cold City setting but do not care for the system (sorry Malcom). So I am using the Microlite 20, "Modern" rules. The microlite spring collection rules can be found here. (The microlite spring collection has all you need and way more.) Now its not required to have the Cold City book. But if you do it would fill in a lot of background info. Plus its a really sweet setting/book.

A quick synopsis of Cold City is this.

As the Cold War rages in the full glare of the world media. The Underground
War is fought in ruined bunkers, dank tunnels, building sites, and bombed
out apartment blocks.
In the divided city of Berlin, the Reserve Police Agency hunts down monsters
left over from sinister experiments and twisted technology. Things from
beyond our space and time, strange creatures altered by bizarre machines,
the decayed corpses of undead soldiers, things that hide in the darkness.
But the Reserve Police Agency itself is riven by suspicion, mistrust and
political ambition. The four occupying powers of Britain, France, the USA
and the USSR all see the need for the RPA, all contribute personnel, all have
their own agendas.
The great battles may be over, but the war carries on.

I'm looking for three to four players. You are welcome to post when ever your able. As will I. I will be online for certain 7-9pm eastern standard time (UTC−05 for our outside of North America friends)  Mon-Wed.

A couple of rules notes. Flame throwers are considered automatic only weapons. Targets also burn for one normal damage die less each round after a successful hit. So for example an RPA agent hoses a shambling thing with a  flame thrower. This does damage as per normal. The next round the target takes another 2d6, the round after that it takes 1d6. Then the round after it is extingushed and does no damage. Another note, some of my weapons damages on the firearms chart are listed as 1d6/1d8. Simply explained instead of say the weapon doing 2d8. Its does 1d6+18=damage. (simple right?:))

So generate some characters. As per the rules. Include what your country of origin is. If you wanted to include a background about a paragraph long that would be super.

All characters start with the same equipment kit,
Backpack
Combat Webbing
Entrenchment Tool (Small usually folding shovel)
First Aid kit
Pocket knife
Binoculars
Compass
Field Radio (US issue "Walkie Talkie")
Flares
Phrase Book
Holster
Pistol of choice (You dont need to pick one from your country of origin either. If a russian wants to carry a 1911 so be it.)

(Note, I've included my Firearms chart PDF. These are the wepaon stats we will be using.)

So feel free to post your charcters here. Looking forward to running a game for you folks.

Aloha Ronin...am interested! Will be looking to make and post my character in the next few days. Seems like a neat setting ! :)
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

While I'm thinking of it I missed one item on the standard equipment kit, a flashlight.

going over the chargen. brought some questions to mind.

are we using all the bonuses from the basic and modern rules?
ie..humans +1 to all skill rolls, fighters +3 to phys., hero types (strong, cunning etc.)

was thinking a young cunning hero (hunting as a youth) with athletic background (football in HS) in the fighter class (backwoods MMA baby!) who volunteered for the service (mostly from boredom), from a farm in Kentucky...

any homebrew rule amendments to add?

:)

Hah, no worries. As long as you're enjoying the game in some aspect, whether it be setting or system, then that's cool by me. If anyone who's registered an interest in this game (i.e.: you've posted to this thread and intend to take part), drop me a PM and I'll make sure you get a download of the game. That should help people understand the setting a little more.

Cheers

I'll allow the human +1 skill rolls. But no fighter class. Only the modern classes (strong, cunning, and etc). But I like your background so far.:D Was your character involved in WWII? Or did he join after the war?
As to homebrew amendments. I cant really think of any besides what I've already posted. If any crop up we'll discuss them and implement them as we "all" see fit.:)

OK no fighter class (as I suspected).
He would have been in the conflict (could he be Army Ranger!) so I don't know if background means before the war or during or what...military background would obviously apply.

Am thinking from Mississippi instead of Kentucky and a gator' wrangler to boot. Age 22 redish hair, light blue eyes, 6' 200 lbs. or so

I will PM Malcom in regards to the rules...totaly cool!:)

Looks good Skoff. One little picky point. Cold City takes place in occupied Berlin in 1950. Each of the allied powers occuping a zone. With the soviets (East Germans) controlling all around it. So he might have put off college a couple years.:)
