This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Nice to see the usual selection of SJG non-roleplaying tat :D Munchkin has to be the worst card game i've ever played.

L5R 3E, possibly also Legend of the Burning Sands (which is L5R compatible, and technically part of the same world).

Quote from: Zachary The First;321184In a lot of ways, I feel that the advent and popularization of Twitter has made this type of coverage somewhat of a dinosaur.  People can get their Gen Con news much faster on Twitter than I can on this blog.  I use Twitter as well, but I'm going to have to really look at how I cover Gen Con next year.  If there's one sour note for me from Gen Con, it's a sense of not really knowing how this coverage fits in, or how much it is needed any more.  In any case, thanks to those of you who've commented and read the past few days.  It's all for you, after all.
You've been my main source of coverage for GenCon, Zach. Twitter's nice for an instant snapshot, like in the case of the fire alarm, but it doesn't replace your words and pictures which convey a much more comprehensive picture of what the con felt like.

I think you should keep this up. Maybe we could find ways to incorporate new media into the existing coverage, but in the end, I think all sources are complementary. One shouldn't replace the other, if you see what I mean.

Thank you for the coverage, in any case. It was much, much appreciated. :)

Well, thanks for that!  I'm honored you were following it all.  I definitely will see what I can do to improve.  Honestly, I just want to make sure it's relevant and useful, and that's the sort of feedback that helps.

For me also, you have been THE source of info about GenCon. I've never been and probably never will, but via this forum post, I have a much better idea of what it's all about and like. Thanks greatly for you effort.

Zach,

I just registered on the site so I could post and chime in with the others.

This is the first year I have followed your coverage of Gen Con, and I loved it.  I have never been to Gen Con, but the pictures (and detailed messages) gave me a sense of being there.

Please continue this in the future!  It is GREATLY appreciated!!

Thank you for the GenCon coverage. I could not attend this year but at least I caught some of the action.

Another year of great coverage. Since I don't go anymore, I like seeing the pictures and hearing about what's going on. Thanks!

Your combination of news and photographs is a great window into the fun that is GenCon - I hope you continue to do this next year!

Oh, dude!  Bill Walton talked about this in the Origins Report I ran!  ;)

And great reporting Zach, always good to catch the highlights when you can't go in person.  Hopefully, I will have that rectified next year; I will help you with the reporting.  :)

Another lurker who registered to express my appreciation for the coverage here.

Twitter is NOT the same.  I can see incorporating it more into next year's plans - but it will not replace what you've done with the news and photographs.

I found you by Googling GenCon 2009 - and this was the best coverage by far.  Next year, I will make my own requests, since you missed Savage Worlds Realms of Cthulhu this year!

It's nice to see someone just documenting the experience, rather than trying to do just interviews or running around trying to cover everything. Your approach is sound, whatever tools you use to do it.

Hey, thank you all for that affirmation.  I just want to make sure my coverage is actually useful.  I love Gen Con, I love the "idea" and ideal of Gen Con, and if I can bring that to folks and they find it entertaining, then I'll keep doing it.  Again, thanks very much--those sentiments make it all worthwhile.  I did have some camera issues this year, but I think next year I can be back with even more coverage--there's always lessons learned, after all.

Of course, my ultimate goal is to get as many people to Gen Con as possible.  We should start the Gen Con Fund, giving scholarships of tickets and gas money to aspiring and deserving attendees.  I'll come up with the digs. :)

EDIT:  Just for that, here's a bonus pic, of beautiful, beautiful Gamescience. :)
