How much gold would a Bard make in your campaign if they sounded like Eivor?
Eivor typically sings Folk/Medieval songs in Faeroese. I imagine Faeroese is a variant language of Old Norse. Apparently, from commenters in her music threads, Iceland people can understand her words and lyrics well enough--though the pronunciations of the words in Icelandic language are very different. Interesting! Eivor is absolutely gorgeous, and a fantastic singer and musician. I read where she is originally from the Faeroes Islands, and grew up on a farm or something.

This here is the Soundtrack version of the song, Livstraedrir. It means "Threads of Life" as when the Norns are spinning the threads of a person's life. Excellent music, and gorgeous vocals by Eivor.
I often use music like this as a "game soundtrack" during my own game sessions.

*Laughing* Yep, Hermano! It's an awesome song. I tend to think that *medieval Bards* should have an authentic, tribal kind of sound to them. Oh, and yeah, *Faeroese*!!! That's kind of a tongue-twister, even in English! *Laughing*
Just as a note, the Faeroe Islands are this little group of islands way up there, off the northern coast of Britain. Kind of in a weird triangle between Britain, Norway, and Iceland. It definitely is an attractive place for the Norse Vikings sailing along that way from Scandinavia. The Faeroese population have their own language, and have preserved a distinctive culture of music, customs, and ways of life. Fascinating and wonderful, for sure!

A much better singer than I expected! I've seen so many musicians performing that what most people call good makes me cringe at how mundane it is. Bravo for sharing this, good sir leatherneck!
Ah, Faeroe! Beautiful place, and a tough language to study. It's kind of intermediary between Icelandic and Norwegian, but the problem with those island dialects is that you can't have a continuum like you have in German, for example.
The song is pretty, but for that "bardic" feel I generally go for some nice 16th-Century songs. Greensleeves might be perhaps too played out for you English-speakers, but it's always a nice one to use. Lluís del Milà's Pavane nº 4 is my favourite.

I have long thought that in D&D, Bards should be more tribal, and their music should be *inspiring* My eyes were certainly opened as I began to follow and be a fan of more traditional, "world" musicians, Folk/Medieval bands and performers that have steadily built up a sort of rennaissance of the genre, and along the way, demonstrated what jaw-dropping inspiration can be found with such singers and musicians.
Eivor is definitely one of my favourites! I often use her singing as a kind of "sountrack" in my game sessions. It definitely helps to get Players centered into a more "medieval mindset".
In the official game books, Bards are typically presented with more of a silly, Pop-music, suave Fop kind of frame. Dress Eivor up in furs an antlers, and yeah. She's a BARD!
Can you imagine having your characters gathered with other barbarians around the hearth, or even some grim knights, with a Bard like Eivor singing by the fire, or relating some ancient, heroic tale of their people?

I saw her a couple years back, she opened for Wardruna. I had no idea who she was at the time and she was freaking amazing live. Been a huge fan ever since.

A good middle-ground is someone like Colm McGuinness. He does a lot of cool pirate-songs, and Irish folksongs that give you some good "D&D fantasy" Bard inspiration. And that baritone of his is *SIIIICK*.

Oh yeah, Tenbones! Heilung is an awesome band. Very much the cool Folk/Medieval vibe going on. I just love all the furs, the flaming torches, and the deer antlers! Heilung is also another excellent example of how I think of Bards being in D&D. Tribal and savage, and yet also deep, and mystical.
The little girl in the Heilung video you posted is so adorable, too! ;D All the fur, being in the forest, the Buffalo. Oh, and damn. The woman giving birth, too! Screaming and crying, and her stomach all tattooed with mystical tattoos. Yeah, man! I think it is awesome stuff!

Damn, Thor Nad! That sounds so awesome!!!! Iwould LOVE to see Eivor live in concert! Just from her videoperformances and some of her live-streams, damn, she is so beautiful and sweet, and her talents are amazing! I love the fact that she's so *medieval* and passionate! She seems really into Faeroese culture, Norse history, and doing her music RIGHT! Damn. You are blessed, my friend!
