You know you've run a good session when....
1. The players don't ask about XP at the end of it.
Anyone else?

They wanna play next week, instead of two weeks from now.
...the table goes quiet as everyone processes what in hell's name just happened.
Two to three players don't want to leave the house , but hang out for a while - with grins and smiles on their faces.
Get at least three e-mails after the game session from individual players telling me how much they enjoyed the earlier game session that night.

The players stand up through the final battle shouting and cheering each die roll. Happened to me at GenCon, running a game of In Harm's Way: Wild Blue. I had also forgotten the printouts of the pre-gens, so we had sat up all the night before drawing them by hand, and all the players asked to keep them.

When the players demand a place on your online game of the same!
When your players help considerably with writing the rules!
Everyone can barely speak, due to involuntary spasms of gut-twisting laughter.
When you receive applause.
When the group stares at you as though you are insane because you have completely submerged yourself into a NPC and they think you have actually had a psychotic break.
They pelt you with dice because you spent an hour setting up a punchline.
The players keep on talking about what happened in the game, and what to do next, excitedly, after the game actually ended.
...you can't sleep because you're too pumped up.

I wake up slathered in jam and tied to the hood of speeding GTO.
You have created a group catchphrase.

Yeah...that one's when I know I really hit it out of the park...even the guys who usually need to cut out quick are standing around, talking about what they need to do next game, etc. Makes me feel good.
(After a game of Call of Cthulhu)
"That was awesome. So...uh...when are we playing next? Soon, right?"
When players get up from the gaming table at the convention, go to the dealer's room and buy their own copy of the game. Has happened a few times and it always gives me a 'warm fuzzy' feeling.

Some of the other answers on this thread are funnier or more clever, but this is the right one. This is the one that actually happens. In a normal session, players will leave relatively quickly after the action is done; whereas in an awesome session, the players all just stick around for another half hour or more, talking about what happened or just not feeling like they want to leave the space yet. That happened with us this past Saturday.
