This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Faery's Tale & RPG Pundit

Hi folks,
Somewhere on here was a theory thread in which folks talked about buying a copy of Faery's Tale to go to the RPG Pundit for a review, but couldn't figure out the technical end of directing a download purchase to someone else. And I went & lost track of the thread. Anyway, I'm game, so to speak, so if you're interested in a PDF review copy, Pundit, contact me at firefly.games@gmail.com & I'll hook you up. If anyone else is interested, and you can point me to at least one review you've written previously, I'll set you up with a copy, too. Thanks.

I'm sorry about that. I don't recall seeing the email - occasionally they don't reach me - but it's possible it got buried in my inbox, which unfortunately happens sometimes. Email me with your address & I'll get a copy in the mail on Monday if you're still interested.

I ended up purchasing it, and as a general matter I don't review games I purchase due to the amount of time I put into the reviews.  I emailed patrick AT ff games, the address listed on the website.

I suppose I'm just a little irritated at receiving no response and then seeing an open offer here.  RPG.net reviews get about 10x the number of impressions theRPGsite reviews get, and games like Faery's Tale are generally better received there.  It also benefits a game's standing in the RPG Gaming Index which is even more free marketing.

In any event, I hope Pundit's review sells some games - it sounds like a fun and imaginative RPG.

I agree, reviews on RPGnet are great, and I fully support them - I always give Shannon at least one free copy of each of my new games for reviews.Three Faery's Tale reviews have been posted on RPGnet so far, along with the Gaming Index entry, to which I hope folks who own the game will add their own comments & ratings. I believe I've made a similar open call for reviews on the forums there, as well. I'm mostly posting here because there was some earlier interest among other posters about having RPG Pundit review the game, and I wanted to (belatedly) respond to it.

I do apologize for the mishap with your inquiry - I'd have been interested to see what you thought of Faery's Tale. Please let me know if you change your mind, or are interested in reviewing any of the short adventures or other follow-on products we have published or in the works.

I've read the game previously, and I thought it was simple, solid, and well-formed.  It contained what I'd need to play in the world presented, and rules that backed up the concept.

Which is to say, if I was hot on the genre and setting, this game would be my Holy Grail.

Sad to say, I'm not.

Hi Levi,
What genre & setting would you be interested in? :)

This is gonna sound odd...

To me, a setting starts to rock as soon as I find the first character in it that believes something very different from myself, but something that is internally consistent within the context given, believes it passionately enough to fight and die for it, and will almost certainly have to do so at some point because of the circumstances.

In many ways, that's the point where I start to buy into a genre.

*Shrug*

Why point at 'Literature'?  Star Wars had such people.  The Punisher is such a person.  Constantine.  Ripley of Alien 3.  A great many villians.

See, I tend to make stuff like that myself, regardless of the setting.

Sometimes I find myself making characters who are so in spite of the setting.

ahhh, i understand what you mean.  like JArcane said, though, i'm more prone to add those type of characters as a matter of course as opposed to them being dictated by the rules/setting.  i mean honestly, there are no rules in the D&D books that mandate the inclusion of complex or interesting characters, but they've been a staple of my gaming for years. ;)
