This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WotC up to its old tricks.

Yeah, it would fit their deep concern over truth and productive discourse.
This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

I don't know which is sadder.  The mistakes WOTC may have made or the sad bitter sense of entitlement of whiny gamers
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

The latter. Always the latter.

It always amuses how some people love to throw around "fan entitlement" to defend the actions of huge companies.

If not for the very people Hasbro is pissing in the face of, they wouldn't have an IP to "protect".

Presumably WotC can learn from their mistakes at some point.

Pssst.  You're not as important as you think you are.  Hate to break it to you.

And yes, it is entitlement if you think it's your right to take someone else's IP and do what you want with it to make a buck for yourself.  The only "actions" this company is doing is enforcing their legal right to IP protection.  They aren't doing anything to you personally, so get off your high horse.

Or siding with clueless corp suits out of brand loyalty.

In the increasingly interactive relationship between companies and their customers, especially in competitive niches where the customer can get their fix somewhere else, it is wise for companies to consider the optics of their actions.

"Pay me and suck it" works fine while you are the only guy selling water in the desert. Otherwise, it has repercussions as Games Workshop has discovered via Privateer Press. It's only a matter of time before a space fantasy minis game shows up to chew up the 40k fandom.

Who's doing that?  Being supportive of companies trying to protect the IP they either created or paid for is hardly that.  I don't have any brand loyalty for anything.

Guys.

The dude who made the character generator in the first place realizes that companies must (and are right to) defend their IP: "In fairness, WoTC must protect its copyrighted material. They have provided a great deal of fun and meaning for all of us."

Good.  Then do it and stop bitching like a five year old.

I, for one, think if you took all these people who are so righteously indignant over WotC trying to protect their IP, and had them all spend their money on something else like they keep threatening, it wouldn't be much of a dent in the overall coffers of WotC.

No one is getting fucked, jackass.  How about these "little guys" create their own game, where they can put out their own digital tools to their hearts content?  Hey, great news!  There's even a site where you can sell all your creative ideas too!

Hey, San, how about we back off a little with the corporate leg humping?  First, I wasn't responding to you specifically. Second, the battery of lawyers intent on "protecting" poor ol' Hasbro hardly needs any help. Was the dude even making $$ off his efforts? Was he competing unfairly?  Was he single-handedly sinking D&D?  I don't even use the guy's stuff, but if he's that badass, maybe wizards should hire him.
